Actor Suriya’s ‘24’ which was released on Friday last , has been getting phenomenal positive responses from the audience as well as critics and running successfully at the box office.

There is a strong buzz doing rounds in Kollywood and social media is that the Vikram Kumar directed time travel flick will have a sequel. There are many posts shared over social media, with reliable points that prove why ‘24’ would have a part two and why Athreya isn’t dead? Here are some:

1. The climax sequence that validates the death of Athreya- the villain, hasn’t been elaborated on screen.
   
2. The climax scene also has shown that blood was spattered over the forehead of Athreya, but no bullet traces could be seen. Athreya might have gone unconscious due to the hit and there would be that gatekeeper on the scenario who could help the stylish villain to go to hospital.
   
3. Moreover, Sethuraman(Scientist) has thrown away the watch after getting escaped from Athreya and the time machine remains close to the reach of Athreya if he was alive..
   
4. Till the end there is no clue about the ‘Eagle’ that keeps on shaping the story in ‘24’. This might be a master move by Vikram Kumar to get the expectation meter high, for the sequel.

24 Box Office Report - 50 Crore Club

Suriya's 24 opened to positive reviews from the critics. The movie had grossed ₹51.7 crore worldwide from the opening weekend. Here are the box office highlights:



24 - Box Office Positives

• The best business was in the US market, where it whizzed past Theri in terms of collections

• The Telugu version of the film has been doing good business. According to trade sources, the Telugu version contributed around ₹17 crore in the opening weekend.

• 24 is holding on well across Chennai, Coimbatore and Chengalpet (3Cs) during weekdays, as it is summer holidays.

24 - Box Office Misses

• Surprisingly, 24 had opened only at moderate number of screens across popular multiplex chains in Chennai. 24 is estimated to have opened only at around 50% of top screens allotted to Theri during its opening weekend.

• The movie got mixed response from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities as the concept of time travel did not connect with the B and C centre audience.

• 24 registered below average collections in the UK market, significantly lower than the gross of recently released Theri.

Will 24 join the 100 Crore Club?

24 is reportedly produced at a budget of ₹75 Crores, needs to sustain strongly during the week days and second weekend in order to be profitable in Tamil Nadu and enter 100 Crore Club. With Tamil Nadu and Kerala elections around the corner, we will have to wait and see if the positive Word of Mouth(WoM) will attract the mind share of audience away from election frenzy.

Suriya’s 24 is going great guns at the box office from the day of its release. Latest update reveals that the film has collected a total share of 3.03 crores till date in the Nizam area.

The collections are especially good in the multiplexes in both the Telugu states. But the real test has already kick started as the weekdays are on from yesterday.

Directed by Vikram Kumar, 24 has Samantha and Nithya Menen as the female leads. Suriya himself produces this film on his home banner. A R Rahman composes music.
