''The superstar domination that was more evident in the last two years continues in Malayalam cinema during the first seven months of 2006. It is undoubtedly the 'M's of Malluwood - Mohanlal and Mammootty who dictates commercial cinema gains in Kerala with Dileep and Suresh Gopi trailing behind. Even a single film without superstars couldn't make it good in the Malluwood box office charts.

In the first seven months, there were 29 releases between Jan 12 and July 30. Among them 10 films turned profitable with Rasathantram turning out to be a blockbuster. Thuruppu Gulan and Tanmantra were super hits and Chinthamani Kola Case, Lion, Balram Vs Taradas and Vadakkumnathan being hits. The last of the releases of July 'Chess' is also proving to be a winner while 'Chacko Randaman' will also recover its costs. Madhuchandralekha and Kilukkam Kilukilukkam will also brea even.

Mohanlal's Rasatantram is breaking all existing records in its 100 days run .This family entertainer grossed an amazing Rs 12.85 Crore, broke collection records in 17 centres in the state and in the long run it will get a distributors share of Rs 6 Crore from theatricals alone.

Thuruppu Ghulan which completed 100 days in few centres has already raked in a distributor share of 3.2 crores.Tanmantra' which has the longest run with 134 days in release centres made a revenue of around 6.8 crores in gross collection."
