18/06/2016 Q Cinemas,10:10pm 50% Udta Punjab - The land is dry & the kids are high,This one line sets the basic premise for this dark,gritty & brooding tale.This film is not the typical commercial entertainer nor it is that mandatory movie created for drug awareness,Abhisek Chaubey has a varied way of presenting things - it has both subtle & over the top sequences.Performances are undoubtedly the backbone of this movie,A Completely Performance driven movie.Shahid stands out among the cast with his madness & mayhem filled performance,as Tomy 'The Gabru' - He displayed an outstanding performance.Alia Bhat as the Bihari Girl did a superb job,a hard hitting performance.Kareena Kapoor was really good with her act,subtle & effective.Diljith Dosanjh did a fine job,as a debutante,good performances.Supporting Cast were fine. 1st half was ok,it has more of a documentary feel to it.The formerhalf drags for most of its part.Towards the interval,the movie gained some momentum & ended on a good interval block.2nd half in total was above average,last 10-15 minutes were the best part. Technically,It's a superbly made product.The Frames were raw,perfect one needed for this movie,the dry lands of Punjab was captured amazingly.Editing could have been much better,some of the scenes were not at all needed,they affected the flow to a great extent.Music & Bgm was fine,Udta Punjab Theme song was the best out of the album.Abhishek Chaubey as the director did a fine job,made the film as raw as possible.It has a dark tone,but has been presented with a pinch of sarcasm & genuine comedies which makes this a good one time watch.This is definitely a film to be encouraged Overall,Udta Punjab is an above average attempt ! +ves Performances Direction Dop, Music Theme -ves Slow moving 1st half Duration Verdict : Above Average !
