Rustom is looking at a 50 crore nett weekend with Sunday business set to be around 19.75 crore nett. The Sunday could have probably gone higher but there are capacity problems with many multiplexes in big cities unable to go much higher as they were already doing 75-80% on Saturday. The spare capacity was in single screens and mass areas but there the film is not as strong as it is in city multiplexes. if the film was a solo release, the Sunday would have been the highest ever day for an Akshay Kumar release This should prove an advantage tomorrow as it repeat the occupancy of today at multiplexes. Mumbai has grown best on Sunday as despite competition as Mumbai circuit can handle two releases together with the least affect on collections compared to other circuits.






Mohenjo Daro does not have the capacity problems like Rustom as its business is much lower so managed to go as far as it could with around 12.25 crore nett for a weekend of 30.50 crore nett plus. The collections are low but the trend is decent as it has managed decent growth on Saturday and good growth on Sunday. The problem is with such a big budget you have to get an initial, 20 crore nett opening is probably too much to ask considering its a clash but it had to getting there or close to it on Sunday to recover its huge cost.

Rustom had a good first weekend of 50 crore nett apprx. In real value the business is actually better than it looks as it clashed with Mohenjo Daro and the Saturday and Sunday business of the film would have been higher in the big multiplexes if it had more screens. Sometimes this is not an issue as films don't get such high occupancy even with clash but here the film has gone to 80% with screenings at peak time going housefull. More screens would have meant more shows at peal periods which would mean higher collections. On a solo release this film would have been the highest Akshay Kumar opening weekend as even on worst case you can add 5 crore though it would probably be more like 8-10 crore nett. The film is a HIT and though mass regions are less than the big cities they have still performed much better than Airlift. Below is the daily weekend business of Rustom.

The best business has come in Mumbai circuit at around 17.50 crore nett, Delhi UP is around 9.50 crore nett and East Punjab is 5.50 crore nett. It is a record opener for Akshay Kumar in Mysore and West Bengal with 2.75 crore nett and 2 crore nett respectively. The circuit where the collections are a little less is Nizam / Andhra and that may be because Mohenjo Daro has fared better there and had a wider release. The film will have a huge Monday and it will be among the biggest ever due to the Independence Day. It remains to be seen if its among the top five Monday's of all time.

There was always a chance that Rustom will beat Mohenjo Daro in the domestic market but the real shock is that it has beaten it Overseas as well. Hrithik Roshan is the only actor with some overseas pull outside the three Khan's but the content of Rustom has pushed it ahead. A market like US / Canada saw Mohenjo Daro have a lead on Friday but over the weekend Rustom has come out ahead. Mohenjo Daro has grossed $800,000 in US / Canada while Rustom is around $875,000. In US / Canada, Hrithik Roshan has 5 films going over a $1 million in opening weekend while Akshay Kumar has just one Singh Is Kinng. The opening weekend of Mohenjo Daro is less than Jodhaa Akbar which was released eight years back and initial business was much lower then.






The big difference has come in Gulf where Rustom is $1.1 million apprx and Mohenjo Daro is $750,000 apprx. This is third biggest opening ever in Gulf for an Akshay Kumar starrer and they have all come this year. His three films this year have all crossed $1 million in Gulf. Housefull 3 was $1.39m, Airlift was $1.2m and now this is $1.1 million apprx. The opening of Rustom should edge past Airlift which was $2.79 million but stay behind Housefull 3 which is Akshay Kumar's biggest Overseas opener. Rustom will have an Overseas weekend in the $3 million range while Mohenjo Daro will be in the $2.5 million range.
