Rustom continued its strong run on Thursday with collections areound the 6 crore nett mark. There is a drop from the previous day but the numbers are still very good. The daily business for the first six days is as follows.

    Friday - 14,00,00,000

    Saturday - 16,25,00,000

    Sunday - 19,50,00,000

    Monday - 17,75,00,000

    Tuesday - 7,50,00,000

    Wednesday - 6,00,00,000 apprx

    Total - 81,00,00,000

The film will get benefit of Raksha Bandhan and could do business which is higher than yesterday. The film has become the highest Akshay Kumar first week grosser of all time in six days as it crossed the first week (7 days) business of Housefull 3 which was 80 crore nett. The third best is Rowdy Rathore .at 75.50 crore nett. The film is also probably looking to be the second biggest grosser of the year, even if the nett collections remain lower than the 123 crore nett of Airlift, the GROSS will beat as Airlift was Tax Free in Delhi / UP from the second week which bumped up its nett collections.

Rustom had a huge day seven with collections going to around 8 crore nett apprx as it got benefit of Raksha Bandhan with some circuits seeing a gain of 50%. Rustom recorded the highest first week collection for an Akshay Kumar starrer comfortable beating Housefull 3 released a few months back. The film has recorded the 17th highest first week of all time. Below are the all time top ten first weeks of Akshay Kumar.

    1. Rustom (2016) 89 cr apprx-

    2. Housefull 3 (2016) - 80.02 crore

    3. Airlift (2016) - 79.29 crore

    4. Rowdy Rathore (2012) - 75.52 crore

    5. Holiday - A Soldier Is Never Off Duty (2014) - 68.64 crore

    6. Housefull 2 (2012) - 61.75 crore

    7. Gabbar Is Back (2015) - 59.61 crore

    8. Singh Is Bling (2015) - 59.41 crore

    9. Baby (2015) - 51.96 crore

    10. Entertainment (2014) - 49.90 crore

Rustom has done well across the board in week one putting up better figures than Airlift and Housefull 3 in practically all the circuits. The failure of Mohenjo Daro really helped its caused as the business was not shared which would have happened if Mohenjo Daro was accepted. The Mumbai circuit is closing on in 30 crore nett in just seven days which is huge (the total business of Housefull 3 in Mumbai was 35 crore nett apprx).

The film got a huge Monday due to Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan also bumped it up on Thursday which helped weekday business immensely. The film will probably see its first noticeable drop on its eighth day but it is the day eight business and ninth day day jump which will tell if the film will go to 125 crore nett or even higher.

Rustom continued to dominate the box office as it went into its second week. Happy Bhaag Jayegi was the main new Hindi release but Rustom was well ahead of that film despite it being day eight for Rustom. Happy Bhaag Jayegi opened around 10% and the opening morning numbers are lower than Aisha (2010) which was a similar type of film featuring Abhay Deol. The opening shows are better than his last film One By Two (2014) though. The film probably only has chances in Delhi NCR and East Punjab mainly but these markets had to open much better to make a big difference to the all India collections. Happy Bhaag Jayegi will probably show good growth in Delhi NCR and East Punjab tomorrow but other circuits will find it tough going as opening is too low especially in East, CP Berar and Nizam / Andhra.

Rustom will be the leading film this week as it continues its good run all over. The film had an excellent Thursday due to Raksha Bandhan so a drop will be on the cards but momentum should pick up again on Saturday. The film has good chances to beat the second week figures of Airlift even though that film went tax free in UP in week two which helped its nett collections. The collections of Mohenjo Daro have dropped but unless there is a good pick for Happy Bhaag Jayegi then even Mohenjo Daro could be challenging the new release day one figures on day eight. The other new release was Unindian which is a English - Hindi film and these do not have any takers in India. Then there were films like Lucchey Laffange, Meeradha and Real Champion which have no awareness and collections will reflect that.

Innale second show kandirunnu. Tharakedilla ennu thonni. Nothing great. Many scenes appeared forced. Cost cutting was evident in art department :kiki: oru thavana kaanam.

Rustom has emerged the second biggest hit of 2016 after Sultan as it held up well on the crucial second Friday. The film has collected around 4.25 crore nett on its second Friday taking its eight day total to around 93 crore nett. The film should beat the nett business of Airlift of 123 crore nett but even if it falls short by a crore or two, the distributor share of the film will be higher and so will the GROSS business as Airlift had tax exemption in UP from second week onward which meant its NETT business was actually the GROSS also. The higher share than Airlift will give it second place in the hit list of 2016 headed by Sultan. The collections of Rustom are almost double of the new release Happy Bhaag Jayegi and the lead could increase over the weekend.

The weekend of the film could go to 17-18 crore nett or even higher depending on the growth on Saturday and Sunday. Normally hit films jump huge on the second Saturday but Rustom has had a few holidays in its first week so the consumption is higher than normal which could tell a little on the growth over the weekend. The film is now being driven by the two big circuits Mumbai and Delhi /UP.
