Puli Murugan : film Review by yodha007 Ever since the arrival of the New Generation Cinema in Mollywood, Super Heroes have become far and few. There have been a plethora of Feel-Good-Movies so much that the viewers are almost fed up. Any trend taken to its extreme becomes a stale. Here comes, Puli Murugan, Mohanlal’s latest Super Hero avatar, reversing the trend and instantly striking a chord among the audience creating roars of appreciation in the jam packed cinema halls. The Tiger Plot: Puliyoor is a forest village notorious for the frequent assault of Man-Eating Tiger on the villagers. The only hope for villagers is Murugan, nicknamed Puli Murugan, an Expert in tackling Tigers. His life is turned upside down, when the friends of his brother, Manikuttan arrives in puliyoor with a hidden mission. What follows is a gripping tale of treachery, revenge involving Warlords and Tiger hunt. Thus the plot of the Puli Murugan consists of two parallel threads: One, involving the Tiger hunt and the second involving underworld dons. Both threads offer a fair amount of action and thrill. Action Packed Script Puli Murugan has a refreshing premise, offering immense possibilities for an imaginative writer. However, Udaykrishna, the scenarist has played to his strengths rather than exploring bold, risky route. He seems to have been content with an action packed super hero drama with mass elements, small doses of humour, romance, family sentiments and revenge motifs in balanced proportion. As a result, the film goes on predictable lines and there are no big surprises in the proceedings. This is the first time udaykrishna has written a script for a Solo Mohanlal Movie. He has exploited the endless commercial possibilities of Mohanlal, giving his fans a treat like NARASIMHAM without verbal diarrhoea. The good thing about the script is that it is action packed and racy and is never irritating like some of his comic capers. Almost all the commercial ingredients fall into correct places and the movie is entertaining to the core. The Stamp of the Director The Director, Vyshakh has put his heart into this movie. The stamp of a seasoned director is evident in each and every frame. Visualizing the action scenes with gusto, Vyshakh elevates even the ordinary scenes into higher levels. The encounter scenes between the tiger and the protagonist at various stages deserve special mention. With limitations of Mollywood, this could have easily become the laughing stock of the social media trolls. However, Vyshakh nailed it. He has come out with flying colours in this acid test, making those scenes an epic, to be remembered in the years to come. One just hopes that this is just a beginning of a glorious career of this dare devil, who seems to have a penchant for the Biggies. The Super Hero Returns Mohanlal, after a pretty long time, returns as Super Hero in Puli Murugan, twirling his moustache once again. The versatile actor, in his long glittering career, has breathed life into so many immortal super hero charactors like Vincent Gomez, Sagar Alias Jacky, Ali Imran, Induchoodan etc. Like all his super hero characters in the past, Mohanlal as Murugan dominates the whole proceeding from the very first frame. He is a lovable, family loving chap, savior of the villagers, an Expert Tiger hunter, a Nightmare for Enemies: All rolled into one. Mohanlal proves yet again that he is the best, when it comes to portraying larger-than-life characters on screen in Malayalam cinema. As Puli Murugan, the actor delivers one of his finest performances in some of the best choreographed action/fight sequences, evoking admiration for the actor who turned 56 a few months back. High Voltage Action on Screen Peter Hein, one of the finest action choreographers in India, makes his entry into Mollwood through “Puli Murugan”. Creating pulsating action on screen, he thrills the viewers, giving us those rare Goosebumps moments to cherish for a long time. The action sequences involving the Tiger, Murugan and his enemies reach epic proportions in the climax and are indeed a treat to watch, taking Mollywood to the next level. Verdict: Big Movie The Big Movie, destined to take Mollwood to the Next Level; offering Complete Entertainment package from the Complete Actor, which is hard to refuse. In other words, Puli murugan is the Narasimham of the New Gen Era: becoming the Bahubali of Malayalam!
