    After a string of box - office flops, ‘New Delhi’ resurrected Mammootty’s career in 1987. The film’s huge success fetched Mammootty the 'Mega Star' status. Directed by Joshiy and produced by Joy Thomas, the movie had an ensemble cast and is one of the highest-grossing films in the history of Malayalam cinema. The film was remade in Hindi were the lead role was reprised by Jeetendra. The Hindi version was directed by the original director Joshiy. It was Urvashi’s and Suresh Gopi’s Bollywood debut.

    Yes...sheriyaanu...chennai and urban areas'l ajith leads vijay hugely in fanbase. Njan chennai'l kurach kaalam undayirunnu. Avide auto'l okke pokumbol njan autodrivers'um aayittu samsarikkum. Ellarum parayunnath ithu thanne aanu. Pakshe avar veroru kaaryam koodi parayum...ee cheri, slum areas, lowest class people okke Vijay fans aayirikkum. Avaronnum ajith fans aavilla. Pinne family support has always been high for vijay than ajith. No doubt in TN. I was also in ultra rural TN. Rural fanbase Vijay thanne aanu leading...except some areas like thoottukudi...thoottukudi ajith fort aanu...avide Vijay enna peru paranjaal adi vizhum enna avasthayaanu.
    Recently remo producer aanennu thonnunnu...he also told that sivakarthikeyan has strong rural fanbase...only mgr, rajni, TR,ramarajan( both for a small period of time) abd vijay has such strong rural fanbase. Vijay also leads in Kerala and srilanka.
