Will Singh Is Kinng Be Another Gadar at The Box Office?

There have been a few blockbusters since Gadar released in 2001 like Om Shanti Om and Dhoom 2 but none of these films created mass hysteria like Gadar did in 2001.



Gadar had the public in a frenzy with the public whistling and shouting like mad at regular intervals and over capacity theatres. These sort of scenes at theatres were never witnessed since then until yesterday when Singh Is Kinng was released.



Singh Is Kinng is creating havoc as the public is shouting, dancing on their seats, whistling like mad and single screens going over capacity.


The reports are similar from overseas as there was so much noise when the film was showing at Himalaya cinema in London that it could be heard outside the cinema. The question in the trade today is will the film become an All Time Blockbuster like Gadar. The overall content of Singh Is Kinng may not be strong as that film but with an unheard of opening it has taken anything is possible.

Singh Is Kinng re-writes box office history by collecting over 8 crore nett on its opening day in India. The box office tornado that is Singh is Kinng is likely to fetch around 28 crore nett over the weekend destroying the 22 crore record of Om Shanti Om and Race.



The big money in terms of distributor shares is made in the first week and Singh of Kinng has taken real advantage of this and despite the high prices the distributors will have recovered costs in six days.


Singh is Kinng will surpass the 32 crore distributor share of the biggest grosser of 2008 Race in 9-10 days while the 26 crore distributor share of the biggest hit of 2008 Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na will be crossed in 6-7 days. It is the fastest money spinner ever.

The much-awaited SINGH IS KINNG has arrived like a thunderstorm. The craze for the film was evident last night, when paid previews across the nation were performed and the response was electrifying. Friday morning too opened to an overwhelming response. The morning and noon show collections everywhere, in Punjab, Rajasthan, C.P. Berar, Delhi-U.P., Nizam, Bengal, everywhere has been terrific. The distributors of all these circuits personally spoke to this writer and each of them was ecstatic, jumping with joy.

SINGH IS KINNG has had the widest release ever for a Hindi film. It has opened at 1700 screens worldwide [as per Studio 18], 1400 in India and 300 in Overseas. The opening weekend, as things stand now, should be in the range of Rs. 23cr. to Rs. 25 cr. nett in India and the first week should close at Rs. 42 cr. to Rs. 45 cr. nett in India. All signs of a Blockbuster!

Meanwhile, the film had a stupendous start in U.K. last night, when paid previews were held. The film collected close to ' 60,000 on Thursday night. Fabulous!
