    Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol repeating Drishyam at the box office

    Mohanlal is seen as a mirror image of an average Malayali. This is plainly because there is no other actor who could bring such nativity and effortlessness while portraying an ordinary man who is devoid of any filmy airs. Starting from the days of TP Balagopalan MA and Nadodikattu to Drishyam and Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol, he has ‘lived’ liked an average Malayali, one who faces financial constraints, unemployment, family problems and everything that we see around in the society.

    His latest outing as Ulahannan, the panchayath secretary in Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol had many shades. From a grumpy middle aged man to a love smitten husband, the character arc seemed perfect because it was Mohanlal who stepped into the shoes of Ulahannan. The movie is getting rave reviews from the audience. It is unanimously proclaimed as a must watch for families.

    Last time Mohanlal played such a role was in Drishyam as the uneducated but ingenious Georgekutty. Both the movies had him playing the middle aged sole bread winner of the family and a father of two kids. But the similarity ends there as both the movies deal with two different subjects. While Drishyam was about how the family’s attempts to get away from the clutches of law, Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol was more about internal family issues and relationship values.

    Drishyam was a massive blockbuster, a kind of success that was unprecedented till then. It was the first Malayalam movie to enter the 50 crore club. The movie was remade in all major Indian languages.

    Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol is also on a similar path. Going by the initial collection reports and response, this family entertainer has the potential to end up there among the top 5 grossers of Malayalam cinema. Already, there are plans to remake the movie in Telugu with Venkatesh who acted in the Telugu version of Drishyam also
