    Tiyaan first look: Prithviraj Sukumaran’s upcoming epic can’t get rid of the Baahubali feel


    Blame it on SS Rajamouli and his movies like Magadheera and Baahubali. Now every period film that any director wants to attempt, they go on to have nearly the same colour palette as Baahubali, even if the movie may cost not even 1/10th of the magnum opus. Last year we had Karthi’s Kaashmora, where the period portions totally gave out the Baahubali vibes with half the energy. This year, Jayaraj’s critically acclaimed take on Macbeth, Veeram also gave the same vibe. Perhaps they are trying to do things differently from the Rajamouli movies, but the use of similar colour palettes and sets don’t make things easier for us to differentiate.

    The reason I am talking about this is because Malayalam actor Prithviraj has just released the first look of his much awaited movie, the big budget Tiyaan. One look at it and I began to to recall Baahubali. Prithvi definitely wants to go ‘epic’ here and we would love to see this talented star to do that. But the first look of the movie is kinda underwhelming, because of the aforementioned reason. In the poster, we can see Prithviraj, wrapped in shawl, looking forlornly at an ancient city that is quite desolate. On one corner of the poster, there is some sort of red war flag. Overall, a poster that indicates epicness but shows actually nothing much. But what intrigues me more was the slogan ‘When miracle meets man…EPICS ARE BORN!’

    Tiyaan is written by actor Murali Gopy and directed by Jiyen Krishnakumar. Prithviraj’s elder brother Indrajith Sukumaran also plays an important role in the movie, along with Murali Gopy, Padmapriya, Shine Tom Chacko and Ananya. Gopi Sundar has given the score.
