    Following Baahubali, film-makers resort to epic dramas & mammoth budget but
    After the astounding success of S.S. Rajamouli's path-breaking Baahubali, many film-makers are now trying to replicate Baahubali's success through epic historical drama and budget worth than Rs. 200+ Crore and more.
    Some of the films announced that seem to be following this path are listed below:

    1. Mohanlal's Randamoozham which is said to be an adaptation of Mahabaratha and is announced to be made at a budget of Rs. 1000 crore. (Industry -Malayalam)

    2. Ram Charan Teja's remake of Ramayana is said to be a Rs. 500 crore budget film. (Industry - Telugu)

    3. Director Sundar C's Sangamithra is a story of a warrior princess which is also expected to be released in 2 parts. (Industry - Tamil)

    4. Baabubali fame S.S. Rajamouli's own film is rumored to be an adaption of Mahabaratha despite the director's repeated appeals that he is interested in making a non-historic movie.

    5. Chiranjeevi's film on the life of a freedom fighter Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy is planned on a grand scale with a budget of over Rs. 125 crore. (Industry - Telugu)

    Interestingly, all these films are multi-linguals and are targeting the PAN Indian audience. Some have even tried roping in names like Deepika Padukone and Aishwarya Rai for achieving that wider reach. Ironically, this is a contrast to the past when historical drama films tanked commercially and were usually shunned upon.But the success of Baahubali seems to have encouraged producers into announcing such big projects again.

    For the Tamil venture, the actual market potential of the lead actors and director is less than Rs. 25 crore (estimate based on past BO performance). Malayalam Industry has just arguably crossed it's first Rs. 100 Crore movie last year. Despite this, the makers are risking a production worth 10 times the collection of the highest grosser of all time in Malayalam.

    Is this no-cushion strategy worth all the risk and will it work like it did for Baahubali is something on our minds right now.
