Mega Prince Varun Tej and the gorgeous Sai Pallavi's starrer 'Fidaa' finally released on Friday, July 21, to rave reviews. The movie was released on numerous number of screens not just in the Telugu speaking states, but also abroad. The movie released in 140 screens in North America, and on Thursday night, became the biggest opener for Varun Tej.
Directed by Sekhar Kammula and produced by Dil Raju, the movie didn't just receive good reviews from audience and critics alike, it also got good box office openings in both India and overseas.
Fidaa collected Rs 8.9 crore right on the first day, worldwide. On the second day, the film collected Rs 8.3 crore and on the third, it collected Rs 9 crore worldwide. On the first day itself many predicted that the film would cross the Rs 25 crore mark by the weekend and 'Fidaa' proved them right by raking in Rs 26.2 crore in three days.
In fact, 'Fidaa' managed to fare better at box office than Madhavan and Vijay Sethupati starrer 'Vikram Vedha' that released on 50 screens across North America.

Filmmaker Sekhar Kammulas latest Telugu outing "Fidaa", a love story about an NRI boy and a girl from Telangana, has grossed a whopping Rs 25 crore in its opening weekend at the box office, a trade pundit said.

"It's the biggest opening for Kammula and hero Varun Tej in their respective careers. The film has approximately grossed Rs 25 crore in its opening weekend worldwide. It has already entered profit zones from the distributors," trade analyst Trinath told IANS.

Following the debacles of "Life is Beautiful" and "Anamika", the Telugu remake of "Kahaani", Kammula has bounced back strongly with "Fidaa".

The film marks the Telugu debut of Sai Pallavi, and she has won over audiences with her performance.

"Her role as the Telangana girl has worked wonders with audiences and critics alike. People are coming back to the cinemas to watch her. Her performance is a big boost for the film," Trinath said.

Produced by Dil Raju, the film has performed exceptionally well in the US as well.

According to its US distributors, the film has already entered the $1 million club in the opening weekend.

According to reliable trade pundits, the film has grossed over whopping Rs 25 crore and has registered the biggest opening in Varun Tej’s career. The film, produced by Dil Raju, has also performed exceptionally well in the US where it has already breached into US $1 million club and is looking very strong.Kammula is known for his clean films that have substantial roles for women and can be watched by all sections of the audience. Fidaa stars Varun Tej and Premam fame Sai Pallavi, and this happens to be her Telugu debut. Pallavi, who happens to be one of the biggest highlights of the film, has single-handedly won over audiences and critics, while majority of them heaping praise on her for holding the movie together. The film has music by Mickey J Meyer and it’s the love-hate-love story of an NRI doctor, played by Varun, falling head over heels for a girl from Telangana.
The film features Varun Tej in his most romantic avatar yet and he is said to have jumped at the opportunity when the script was pitched to him. On working with Kammula, he told Hindustan Times: “He is very different from all the directors I have worked with. I know each filmmaker has a style of working but Sekhar enjoys the process more than anyone else. I really don’t know why he took so long to make this film. He told me he narrated the script to a few people and then finally approached me. I like movies where everything is dealt naturally and with a sense of realism. Sekhar’s work stands testimonial to that kind of cinema. He doesn’t like to go overboard for the sake of satisfying a section of the audiences. His style of working is very subtle and natural. Also, he lets his actors improvise with dialogues and scenes which I don’t think many directors appreciate. I thoroughly enjoyed working with him.”
