Bharadwaj Rangan is one of the most acclaimed critics in India now...a reputed writer in Hindu as well...great hearing such good review from him
Nivin works a lot with his friends....many people will say its a bad thing because he never comes out of his comfort zone and whenever he does, the limitations in his acting are visible. Sakhav was one such case where his acting flawed but I personally loved AHB and became a Nivin fan after AHB. But if his movies are good and is giving money to the producers and a good chunk of the audience is ready to watch it, whats the problem. Not everyone will like Nivin movies and both JSR and NNOI have caught the eye of multi audience and ROI viewers. If the movie with Vyshakh happens, a mass masala entertainer, he can root more in the mass audience also. Even in the 80s and 90s, the current superstars and super directors, script writers, music directors were all youngsters and worked with their friends. Agreed, you cannot compare the quality of movies in the 80s and 90s to the movies now, still these group of youngsters are making far better movies than the crap cliched movies of mid to late 2000's when malayalam cinema was at its worst. That period was a horror show with outdated directors having no idea what to do with ageing superstars, which was the reason why Malalayalee youth had to go to Allu Arjun and start watching Telugu movies. Now new people are coming up and using the superstars better on screen. Now that NNOI also is going on to become a superhit, Nivin's next two movies, Moothon and Kayamkulam Kochunni will be huge litmus tests for the actor. Let's see.
