Arjun Reddy I have never liked Telugu movies in general. Not even a single telugu movie I've watched (Not going back till Shankarabharanam) can be compared to a simple Malayalam movie like Maheshinte Prathikram. But this movie is freaking brilliant. Vijay Devarakonda is a revelation. What Premam gave to Nivin Pauly, Arjun Reddy does to Vijay Devarakonda. The dialogues. The dialogues are the core of the movie. Never ever does Telugu cinema dive into characters. The women in Telugu cinema are always always always show-pieces just for the hero to dance with. The characters never ever have even an inch of depth to them in general. But Arjun reddy rocks the core of Telugu Cinema and brings out a new era of film-making. The story is cliched love story. Brash hero meets heroine. Falls in love. Family opposes the relationship. Hero wins her back in the climax. Cliched right? But it's all in the making. The characters are sketched out to the core. Be it Arjun's friend, Arjun's grandmother, or even Preethi the dog. They all linger long after you have watched the movie. And for a change, the women does not always look plastic like in usual Telugu cinema. This is a huge leap for Telugu cinema. The movie is vulgar and raw and justifiably so. Arjun Reddy is a psychopath and an extremely extremely pathetic guy. He is not a hero to be honest. He is a sad alcoholic loser and the movie never portrays him as a good guy. Somewhere, it reminded me of Hunter, another brilliant movie with similar making.
