Venkidi, the real life based character of Vimanam takes off in his lightweight aircraft in pursuit of his long cherished dream and lands safely after repeated attempts. On similar fashion, Vimanam the film takes off on a bright note and ends up landing in a safe zone. The movie is a motivational one giving prominence for some intense and soulful romance. This one is sure to go well with people who loves good films and it was a thoroughly overwhelming experience for me.

We all know about the legal tussle between the makers of this film had with Aby the Vineeth Sreenivasan flick that was released a few months back this year. Similarity in storyline was the reason for the matter ending up in court and finally court cleared Aby which was released first. Now the primary theme of both the films are similar and is based on real life character named Saji Thomas who in pursuit of his childhood dream made an aircraft of his own and flew it. This is common for both these movies and the similarity just ends there.

Vimaanam is much more intense and the aircraft flying aspect runs in parallel with a romantic track between Venkidi and his love interest Janaki. Pradeep M Nair who is the director as well as the script writer has focused more on the relationship between the lead pair. Also some other additional inputs have also gone into the screenplay which was quite illogical if we give too much thoughts into them.

As I mentioned above, this film is a motivational tonic for everyone who all are in pursuit of some dream. Failure shouldn't backout a person from his focus and one should try and try innumerable times to achieve success just like how Venkidi shows us. That's what the movie is trying to showcase. Having said that, I should also say that the core theme of flying sometimes gets diverted and forgotten when the love angle gets more focus.

The character of Prithviraj passes through two phases. One of them focus on his youth and the other one is showed when his character gets old and is somewhere aged around the sixties. Both the phases had its own challenges. Saji Thomas, the differently abled person based on whom this film is made had speech and hearing impairment but when it came to Venkidi, Pradeep has moulded this character with just hearing impairment alone. Prithviraj didn't make any faults nor did he underperform to give a chance to critiques to complain.

Durga Krishna is the name of the actress who played Janaki and it was an equally challenging role with good screen presence. Durga was upto the task and came up with a clean act almost matching her male counterpart. Next in line who impressed the most was Alencier Lay and the same goes for Sudheer Karamana who played the role of Venkidi's uncle. A few more among the supporting actors are there like Asokan, Saiju Kurup, P Balachandran, Lena, Anarkali Marikar and Praveena but they couldn't make any impact as the space allotted to them were quite limited.

Gopi Sundar deserves appreciation for coming up with an impressive background score and positive music. Cinematography and edits were fine and talking about the visual effects, they were blended well into the movie. Make up wasn't that convincing but overall Vimanam is rich in production values.

The final question is whether you can watch this film or not and I would go in the affirmative to answer that. Vimaanam is high on emotions with two parallel tracks in the story. One with a romantic track that has lot of depth in it and the other side is the inspirational part where the protagonist despite several odds against his favor ends up on the successful side. Final verdict from my end is that it is a good film for the family audience and one that has the quality in it to stay in our memory for sometime.

    Vimaanam

    Q Cinemas,8:00pm

Vimaanam is technically sound and thematically overwhelming, but the melodramatic narrative often tampers the cinema.Prithvi simply owns the entire movie,he portrays Venki with exceptional prowess, and it's indeed the biggest saving grace of this film. Finally,Vimaanam isn't a completely satisfying experience, nevertheless it has its moments.

    Watch it for Prithvi :heart1:
