Review Insidious Chapter 4 : THE LAST KEY - @NAND TALKS!

James Wan's Insidious is one of the most significant horror films of 21st century. It not only revitalised horror films which was so far revolved around sadistic monsters, but also proved that horror is one of the most profitable genres for filmmaking. The average 'insidious' movie costed only 6 million USD for blumhouse, but earned more than five times its budget. That may be the the reason for flushing out one more movie in this franchise as far as Jason blum is concerned.
Directed by 'Adam Robitel' whose debut movie 'Taking of deborah logan' was an impressive effort, Insidious: The Last Key starts with the Elise Rainer (Lin Shaye) childhood, circumstances that forced to fled from her own family. In her present, Elise was approached by a man who experiences paranormal events in five keys, New Mexico. Elise was forced to revisit her worst fears, when she realised that the house the man resides is her own house she stayed in childhood!
Lin Shaye is a scream queen now. Her towering performance as Elise is the only positive about this disappointing film. Infact, with this movie , Patrick Wilson (Josh) is no longer the main pillar of the movie as he was replaced by fan favourite Lin shaye. Normally hollywood film boasts of good production values, sound mixing, and DOP. Unfortunately this is amateurish to its core. Tucker and Specs 'nerd' acting is boring after a point of time. The opening scenes involving elise father and mother are unintentionally funny. Many times i felt like this is a straight to dvd movie.
Insidious was also one of me personal favourites rather than the much publicised 'Conjuring' series.Themes like Astral projection (recently it was in news in connection with Nandencode Murder Case) and the creation of an alternate world 'Further' was appealing to me. However as a prequel to insidious 2 and a sequel to insidious 3, Last Key adds nothing more to the franchise.

Overall, The Last Key nails the last pin to the coffin of an already dying franchise.In facts, the styling of end credits was better than the whole affair !
