Excellent movie & Visually stunning

first half is bit lengthy athaanu oru neg

shahid kapoor kidu aanu with his looks and acting

deepika looks gorgeous

Ranveer the show stealer looks acting ellaam kondum baakiyullavarae nishprabham aaki..script is not great idaykokkae lag undu ranveer perf aanu oru paridhi verae athu marikkadakkunnae..

SLB is good with his music and direction

 

Padmaavat has had a very good first day of around 18 crore nett as per early estimates. The number is not a good one considering the cost of the film with it needing a 120 crore plus worldwide theatrical share to cover costs but it has to be taken into account that the film has lost around 30-35% of its market with some circuits completely shut and others partially shut..





Despite the problems it is still the biggest opening day for Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh though obviously they have featured in a film costing over 200 crore. The best numbers came in Mumbai with Mumbai city being just 10-15% less than Tiger Zinda Hai. The major area which was likely to have no protests was Bangalore but that had a bandh for local reasons but Punjab (state) which also has a clean release is not that great. Chandigarh is good but other cities like Amritsar and Jalandhar have just decent collections.





Its too early to make a call but from the first numbers coming in, it looks like the film is typical Bhansali in that Mumbai has huge potential while others under perform as compared to Mumbai. The difference here will there is no Gujarat at the moment and this is the killer for the film. If it had Gujarat without the other places showing it would be in a strong position. There is a huge national holiday tomorrow which will give it a huge boost but its fate really lies whether Sunday can again match the national holiday and then the crucially the weekdays will have to hold very strong. If a few circuits can open up in the next few days it would really help the cause of the film.





In Overseas markets the film had a so so opening in Gulf with expected figures of around $375k while Australia had a record opening of A$350k but that was because normally only one of the main chains releases Indian films but as Paramount is the distributor they went to both of the major chains and the widest release ever for a Hindi film which gave it 40% more business than normal. Overseas is looking at a strong run in US / Canada and Australia while Gulf may be the markets which does not let the film rack up huge numbers Overseas.
