    Tovino Thomas’ horror-thriller is based on true events

    Tovino Thomas seems to be on a signing spree these days, and why not with most of the actor’s films this year winning critical or commercial acclaim. The latest project he has signed is titled 563 St. Charles Street, which will be his first crossover movie.

    The horror-thriller is directed by Chicago-based filmmaker Rony Roy, who had previously worked with Abi Varghese in Monsoon Mangoes and Don Max in 10 Kalpanakal. The film will mark Rony’s directorial debut in Malayalam.

    On the film, he says, “It’s a blend of horror and mystery that is adapted from true events.” The team are currently finalising the rest of the cast, with the production set to kick off only in March 2020. “The plan is to shoot extensively in the US. We are also looking at Canada, but we haven’t confirmed it yet,” says Rony, who has also worked in several independent projects in the US and international documentaries.

    The filmmaker informs us that the movie will be akin to a Hollywood film. Incidentally, most of the crew of Prithviraj’s Ranam, which was also a crossover film, is attached to 563 St. Charles Street including the cinematographer Jigme Tenzing, music director Jakes Bejoy and editor Sreejith Sarang. The film is scripted by Sangeeth Jain.
