Oozham(No spoilers)

As I walked out of Oozham, I felt really sorry for Jeethu Joseph. The man has given us an efficient thriller. One that does not stop to spoonfeed the audience, nor linger on too many mass scenes, but most of all for giving the audience a cracker of a climax which judging from audience reaction, went over most of their heads completely. Oozham is a thriller for the multiplex going Hollywood diet fueled audience.Well, at least for most part.

But it begins rather tamely. How many times will we see the saccharine fueled happy family stereotype? Is it too much to ask for a normal family with some gray shades? But the movie does get back on track after the initial half hour when the revenge track gets into play. It is a slow buildup as the wronged ones use their professional capabilities to achieve vengeance in the only way they know. The movie picks us pace when the assasinations start. The common grouse may be that all the killings take place in the same manner. But C'mon, our lead is no superhero. He can't stave off a dozen men and get away with it. He can't even fire a gun, for God's sake. Considering that the makers have tried to portray a realistic vengeance thriller, it works for most part

The heroine is eye candy and looks stunning in the club scene ..Rest of the cast do the job well. Especially the guy who played the security expert Captain. The main baddie is played by the Tamil actor who played the Baddie in Mankatha (Don't know his name). He's such a good actor that you feel sorry for him owing to weak dubbing from another person.

A major portion of the movie (60 percent) is in Tamil and English. We rarely do get to hear Malayalam in the second half. The intercutting between the past and present through a continued action scene appears choppy initially but as the movie progresses towards its climax, you realize it's necessity. Jeethu makes sure he crosses the t's and dot's the i's to perfection. I couldn't make out any single logical deficiency. Even the climax which most of the people say appears out of nowhere has been carefully thought out and filmed. He makes sure he stuffs the movie with red herrings, even just a scene before the climax. ..But the explosion scenes have poor vfx

Prithvi is vengeance personified. Not for him the primal fury of a wronged man. He's a man of useful skills and he make sure that hell comes down on the perpetrators of a dastardly act. Add to that some terrific punch lines delivered with utter machismo and coolth, you have a protagonist worth rooting for.

Oozham is proof that Drishyam was no fluke. Jeethu Joseph has made a realistic thriller. But he appears to have severely overestimated the intelligence level of the layman. We all know that he can make a dumb entertainer. But the fact that he chooses to make something like this shows that he's so much more capable than Drishyam. Let's just hope that this won't be a dismal failure. Because we deserve better. And when someone tries to give that better movie, let's just not reject him
