9th Edition of National Film Festival of Kerala(NFFK) will be conducted at Kodungallur by Kerala State Chalachithra Academy between 18th and 21st March 2017 . Venue will have two screens of Carnival Cinemas at Mugal Mall kodungallur.
Kodungallur Film Society & Kodungallur Municipality are the local Sponsors.

Total 25 films will be screened in four days . Seminars, Open forums, and cultural programmes will be performed as a part of the festival.

A Billion Colour Story





In a world rapidly being torn asunder by violence, racism and suspicion, there is a growing despondence and a feeling that almost all of humanity is at cross purposes, and most of it at war. There is a dire need for reassurance that not all is lost, that the fundamental goodness of humanity is still intact. There need to be more love stories than revenge dramas, more stories of real life heroes than superhero sagas. There need to be more stories that reinforce our faith in each other rather than a mythical messiah who might never arrive to save us. A Billion Colour Story is one such story.

Manhole



Manhole is a Malayalam movie directed by Vidhu Vincent depicting the life and struggles of a manual scavenger's daughter. The film was adjudged the Best Film of the year 2016 by the jury for the Kerala State Film Awards 2016 and the Director of the film was selected as the the Best Director of the year 2016. This made Vidhu Vincent the first woman to win the Best Director Award in the history of Kerala State Film Awards since its inception in 1969. According to Jury Chairman A.K. Bir, Manhole was the unanimous choice among the jury members for convincingly bringing the plight of the marginalised on screen.

Kaaka Muttai



Kaaka Muttai (English: Crow Eggs) is a 2015 Indian Tamil comedy-drama film written, directed and filmed by M. Manikandan. Jointly produced by Dhanush and Vetrimaaran and distributed by Fox Star Studios, it features newcomers, Vignesh and Ramesh, in the lead roles alongside Iyshwarya Rajesh. And has music composed by G V Prakash Kumar. The film was remade in Marathi as Half Ticket directed by Samit Kakkad.

Parched


Parched is a 2015 Indian drama film written and directed by Leena Yadav and produced by Ajay Devgan under his banner Ajay Devgn Films.It premiered at the Special Presentations section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival.In India, the film released on 23 September 2016.

Ottayaal Paatha



Ottayaal Paatha is Directed by Babusenan brothers is the only Indian movie selected to the competition section of the CIFF to be held in Cairo from November 15 to 24. Ottayaal Paatha is a story about a crippled father and son who lives in the slum and the two share a difficult relationship. The son decides to run away to another city without informing his father, things doesn't turn out the way he had planned it. K.Kaladharan, Sarath Sabha and Krishnapriya play the lead characters in the film.

Kaadu Pookkunna Neram


Kaadu Pookkunna Neram (English: When the Woods Bloom) is a 2016 Indian Malayalam film written and directed by Dr. Biju. The film is produced by Sophia Paul under the film production house, Weekend Blockbusters. It stars Indrajith Sukumaran as a policeman, who is sent into deep jungles to capture the chief of a radical organization, played by Rima Kallingal, but instead finds himself trapped in it.

BOKUL


Thirty-year-old Raktim comes back to his town to attend his sister's wedding and is struck by the changes that the place has gone through during his absence of five years. He also realizes that his old music teacher is missing, and sets off on a search to find him. In this search he comes across three characters - an old lonely fisherman who spends his last days in the memory of his only son, a young rickshaw-puller who is bravely fighting off communal prejudice to take care of his family, and a single mother who runs her shop independently. Coincidentally, each of these characters are named Bokul - and Raktim shares their personal journeys in the narrative, that leads him to the final truth.

Visaranai


Visaranai (English: Interrogation) is a 2015 Indian Tamil-language docudrama-crime thriller film written and directed by Vetrimaaran based on the novel Lock Up by M. Chandrakumar. Featuring Dinesh, Anandhi and Aadukalam Murugadoss in the lead roles, the film deals with police brutality, corruption, and loss of innocence in the face of injustice.

Sairat


The film follows the story of Prashant Kale aka Parshya, a low-caste young boy, and Archana Patil aka Archi, a daughter of a rich "upper caste landlord". Parshya, although poor, has a good academic record,is good at reading and is the captain and the star player of the local cricket team. Archi is a strong willed girl, who is also academically proficient, but more importantly, known as a headstrong girl who enjoys ‘masculine’ tasks like driving a tractor or riding a Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycle. As they both study in college together, it is observed that they slowly start falling for each other. Early on, Archi’s large and muscular maternal cousin Manya tries to intervene and beat up Parshya, but is ordered to stay away by Archi. They slowly find ways to spend time with each other and fall in love.

Radiopetti


Radiopetti is the story of a 70-year-old man, partially deaf and is extremely fond of the valve radio, a gift by his dad when he was a child and he sees his dad through the radio. He became psychologically disturbed when this radio disappears.

The film became the first Tamil film to win the KNN Audience Award in the official competition in Busan International Film Festival 2015, and was an official selection in Indian Panorama for 46th International Film Festival of India held at Panaji, Goa.

Island City


A collection of three comic-dramatic stories set in Mumbai. The first is about a diligent office worker who wins the office 'Fun Committee Award', which entitles him to a whole day full of fun. He is most reluctant to leave the safety of his cubicle but he has to. Prescribed fun modules have to be completed and non-compliance is not an option... The second story begins with a domineering head-of-the-family, Anil, who is on life support. Seeking some relief, his family decides to buy a TV, which Anil had banned. Now every night the family plugs into a popular soap whose hero, Purshottam, is a man ideal in every way and they are smitten. Then suddenly, comes the news that Anil is better and may be home soon. Will they have to let Purshottam go?... The third one centers on Aarti whose repetitive existence is slowly making her more and more mechanical and numb. Deep inside ferments a disconnect and unease that she is unable to articulate to anyone. Then one day there arrives a most intimate letter and everything changes...

Sila Samayangal /Sometimes


Following of the release of De Dana Dan in December 2009, Priyadarshan announced that he was working on the script of a film on AIDS with Aamir Khan in the lead role .The pair regularly discussed the script and Khan had agreed to fund the project, with Priyadarshan revealing he was still scripting the film as of February 2011. However, the director took longer than expected to complete work on the script and by May 2012, Khan and Priyadarshan chose to shelve the project. The director considered bringing in Akshay Kumar to reprise the lead role instead, but the project failed to materialise

Divya, a seventeen-year-old schoolgirl, realizes that she is pregnant from her estranged boyfriend. Disregarding her family and school obligations she sets out to find and claim him back to her life.

Chitrokar


The film Chitrakar (The Last Mural) is inspired by two incidents in the life of two painters. Binod Bihari Mukherjee of India and Mark Rothko of US.It raises the question of who a painter paints for and presents the tension between the artistic endeavour and commercial reality through a painter’s eye.

Kismath (English: Destiny) is a 2016 Indian Malayalam romantic drama film written and directed by debutante Shanavas K Bavakkutty. It stars Shane Nigam and Shruthy Menon as two star-crossed lovers from different religious backgrounds. It is produced by Shailaja Manikandan under the banner of Pattam Cinema Company, and in association with LJ FIlms and Akbar Travels.

The film narrates the real-life story of a Ponnani couple - a 28-year-old scheduled caste woman and a 23-year-old Muslim man - who faced backlash from society for their relationship in 2011. The screenplay was conceived by Bavakutty while serving as the town's Municipal Councillor




Vinay Forrt has come forward with an extraordinary makeover for his upcoming movie “Godse”.He appeared in the look of Mahatma Gandhi in the movie.Vinay Forrt himself revealed his look in the film ‘Godse” through his facebook profile.

He plays the role named Harichandran who anchor the programme named Gandhigram at Aakashavani radio station.The film is titled as “Godse” and directed by two directors Sherry and Shyju Gangadharan.

Amma , a short film on the life of Arya Antharjanam, wife of social reformer and actor Premji. It is this story of a stoic Namboothiri woman that is narrated in Amma , a short film made by her son and mediaperson Neelan.
