Interesting fact about "Sethuramayyar " The character "Sethurama Iyer" was initially conceived as a Muslim character "Ali Emran", but Mammootty suggested an Iyer character to incorporate jibes of Devadas (Sukumaran) about vegetarianism and lack of Iyers to do physical work. This resulted in one of the most popular two-character confrontation scenes between Sethuraman Iyer (Mammootty) and Devadas (Sukumaran). Because of the popularity, this was repeated in the sequels Jagratha and Sethurama Iyer CBI. The character "Ali Imran" was later executed in the movie " Moonnam Mura" which was conceived by Mohanlal. Mammootty had said about this in an interview given to sify.com mammootyy says "The character of Sethurama Iyer is very close to me, it was my creation to a very large extent. In 1986 when writer S.N Swamy and director K.Madhu started work on the original script they thought of making the hero as a Muslim tough-as-a-nail cop Ali Imran. After reading the script I thought that if the film has to work, the officer had to be a Brahmin with a pious and intelligent look and named him Sethurama Iyer and the rest as they say is history. "
