Cinema : Balaji Movieplex, Koparkhairane Status: 100% Plot: The story of Bajirao,a Maratha warrior and the biggest battle of his life. A staunch Hindu, he is aided by a half Muslim, Mastani, in a battle against the Moghuls. He defeats the Moghuls, but loses his heart to Mastani and her fieryness. A Hindu Muslim love story then unravels before us, with all possible hurdles that the time the story is set in can throw at them. They have to fight their family, and the society who just won't let Mastani into their fold. Then there is Kashibai, Bajirao's wife played by Priyanka Chopra and the complex equations between them. There are many things that work for the film. The Bhansali school of filmmaking where everything is grand and set on the largest scale possible, the lead cast who have really put in their heart into their performance and an equally able supporting cast. Each and every frame is lavish, even the battle scenes are shot well considering this is a period drama. But the film falls short of being a good watch because of its inconsistent pace. It picks up when you start thinking that it is getting boring, but then it falls off again. There are people who like Bhansali's narration, but for me it is a bit too tedious at almost 2 hrs 40 mins. The movie at times gets a bit melodramatic and over indulgent, given the nature of dialogues. Songs are not bad, but doesn't serve much purpose with Pinga having some obvious Devdas hangover. Performances: Ranveer looks the part and acts well, but goes a bit over the top at times. Piggy chops and Dips are equally good. Priyanka scored more for me though. Tanvi Azmi delivers a good performance, so does the guy who plays Bajirao's brother. All in all not bad, could have been much better.
