Ever since NTR Jr. announced his next project with K.S. Ravindra, I was wondering why an actor like Tarak should allot dates to a guy whose previous flick was a colossal disaster in boxoffice. However contrary to my expectations, this time Ravindra delivered a good mass entertainer. With heavy reference of Ramayana, ,many scenes of Jai Lava Kusa owes to the Indian Epic. Jai, Lava and Kusa are three brothers whose family lives by performing plays. As a kid, Jai was constantly bullied and disrespected due to his stammering. Main roles of the play were always reserved for Lava and Kusa , and Jai was always leftout. In a turn of events, brothers get separated. Lava Kumar is now a bank employee and perfectly fills the notion of so-called gentleman. He never drinks, smokes and keeps to himself. Kusa on the other hand is a crook, who will do any thing for a penny. Jai is now Raavan Maharaj, a local goon with little respect to humanly emotions. Things get a turn when Jai wants to meet his brothers. The film works mainly because of NTR,NTR and NTR. He is simply terrific with his screen presence, dialogue delivery and sometimes even with minute detailing like eye movements. I don’t think no other actor of this generation in telugu can portray these three different shades. Be it Lava-The Gentleman, Kusa- The crook or Jai- The terrific Gangster, he simply stole the show. My personal favourite is Lava. NTRs’ subtle acting makes this character most memorable. Raashi Khanna and Nivetha Thomas did good job.Cinematography is bland. Visual effects are top notch in the sense that there were a lot of scenes in which all these roles played by NTR come together. Some of the scenes are hilarious, and memorable. I personally loved the demonetisation comedy in the first half, the way lava kumar expresses his love, kusa’s oneliners and a terrific ‘Raavana’ intro just before interval. Though second half is not upto first half, still it manages to hold interest. I still wonders was K.S Ravindra, the same guy behind Sardaar Gabber Singh, which was one of the most horrible movies I have ever watched! His first movie ‘Power’ was also not impressive to me. A much talked ‘Swing Zara’ –item number by tamannah failed big time adding to preclimax portions which was also not impressive. However an emotional climax worked out well. In fact Climax is the USP of this NTR starrer which was totally unpredictable in otherwise predictable mass entertainer. DSP disappoints big time. Except Raavana- the title track of Jai , none of the other songs are impressive. Though screenplay succeeds in keeping the audience interested, one line of this movie is tried and tested many times. Lack of a strong antagonist is another weakness. In fact, Jai Lava Kusa has the weakest antagonist in recent NTR movies. To round up, if you are a lover of mass entertainer Jai Lava Kusa wont disappoint you. Go for it To me, Temper>Jai Lava Kusa> Nannaku Prematho>Janatha Garage in recent years. RATING: 3.5/5 “NTR JR. CONTINUES HIS STREAK BY JUSTIFYING HIS LEGACY”
