Janatha Garage Review – A festival Emotional Family Entertainer

I never thought that I would watch a telugu movie in theatre on the very first day of its release. The much awaited Jr.NTR-Mohanlal-Koratala Siva movie – Janatha Garage got released today. Koratala had a dream start to his career as director with blockbusters Mirchi and Srimanthudu, Jr NTR, the guy who wants to be called an actor , rather than a star signed this movie, right after 2 critically acclaimed hit movies Temper and Nanakku Prematho. Will they get their well deserved hatrick? This time ,they are in good company - Mohanlal , one of the finest actors in India is also a part of Janatha Garage. Will my first experience be sweet or bitter? Let’s see…

Plot :

Mohanlal (Satyam) is a man who loves and feels for people, he helps the needy under the name of his garage – Janatha Garage. Jr NTR is a nature lover who preaches and at times fights to save the nature and environment (Earth). What happens when these two powerful and strong characters meet and decide to stand together for a common cause? This is the core plot of the movie.

Mohanlal is the backbone of this movie, It’s his character Sathyam, who drives the entire movie, the first hour belongs to him. After the colossal disappointment Jilla [for Mohanlal fans eventhough movie was a commercial hit), I didn’t expect much screen space or time for Mohanlal. But Kudos to Jr NTR and Koratala Siva – they have used both the Mass and Class faces of Mohanlal intelligently in the movie. Eventhough it’s a cakewalk role for him, it will be a very refreshing experience for the telugu people who may not have seen much of him. His expressions are top notch and the close up scenes gives goosebumps to his admirers. His presence is there through out the movie, eventhough he takes a backseat during the latter half of the movie. Jr.NTR shines as Anand, his dance moves and action scenes are stylish and elegant. He did well in the emotional part too except for the sad scene with Samantha where I felt he went a little overboard. But nevertheless NTR fans will be happy to see his choice of scripts and his ever improving brilliance in acting.

Samantha and Nithya Menenwub: ) doesn’t have much to do , but did their part well. Enjoyed the funny moments between NTR and Nithya/Samantha. The film can brag on it’s rich star cast and all supporting actors did a good job starting from Saikumar to Devayani. Unnimukundans character was a bit stereotyped and he fails to impress. Kajals item number erupted the theatre and she looked really hot.

3)Koratala Siva's Script - He tried to be realistic throughout the movie
4)Thirus Camerawork
5)DSP’s BGM.
6)Supporting Actors (Rajeev was really good)

Cons :

1)Pace of the movie
2)Fights lacked punch (Srimanthudu & Mirchi type whistle moments were less)
3)Climax could have been better.
4)Direction & editing could have been better

Favorite moments :
1)Jr.NTR – Mohanlal emotional scenes.
2)Office fight
3)Sachin Khandekar –NTR forest dialogue.
4)First 15 mins of both first and second half.

In short , an intense story driven first half and a typical telugu mass masala second half with a trademark rushed climax from Koratala Siva.

My Verdict : Emotional Family Action Entertainer – Paisa Vasool

Minimum Superhit in Andhra/TG.

Tail End:

1) I always wondered why NTR movies didn’t run much in Kerala. In my opinion he is much better actor and dancer than Allu.

2)My telugu friends were heaping praise for lalettan throughout. Felt really proud and happy
They said that he simply nailed the character . I wonder what they would tell if they see performance oriented movies of him.
