23/04/2016 Q Cinemas,10:20am 80 % Leela is a film which aspires to be a modern day Classic, but falls short of being one such. The movie is completely infused with the so called "Bujism" & it's a total mishap for commoners who seek films expecting some amount of entertainment irrespective of the genre.Perfomances are the only relief in this lacklustre cinema,Biju Menon performed with great amount of enthusiasm & his screen presence was the best part of the movie, some of his one-liners in the former half served the best part of this movie.Vijayaraghavan did another superb job, eventhough his characterisation was not so great, his perfomance made things lively.Jagadheesh as Thangappan was a total surprise,he was splendid in a short & well written role.Indrans was also good.Parvathy Nambiar in the title role was a complete miscast, her perfomance also lacked the intensity & remained stone faced for most of her screen time. Most of the characters looked artificial due to their improper characterisation & hence the supporting cast had nothing much to perform. Both the halves were equally disengaging, the sluggish pace along with long winding conversations without any purpose made the film look odd.The One-liners & the perfomances saved this movie from being a total dump.2nd half started promisingly but was again irritating by bringing an angel into the proceedings .After all these mishap came the much awaited & talked off climax which turned out to be the worst part - to be frank, what the heck is this, such a disastrous ending . Technically,Dop was fine,Helicam shots of Wayanad was captured amazingly.Editing could have been much better,he can't to nothing as the movie cannot be trimmed further, eventhough the running time was just about 100-105 minutes, the amount of dragging was immense. Many of the readers & critics have boasted of the Literal Brilliance in the Novel 'Leela' & it gained much praise & accolades. But the Cinematic Version of Leela fails to recreate the magic,Making of Ranjith didn't have the required intensity, narration was below par & terribly slow making zero interest or curiosity in the viewers. Finally,For me Leela is a film made for no purpose,Veruthe oru padam . Overall,Leela falls short of expectations ! +ves Biju Menon Vijayaraghavan-Jagadheesh-Indrans One-liners Negatives Bakki Ellam Verdict : Failed Attempt ! Rating : 4.5/10 B.O Verdict :
