Mohanlal to play a panchayat secretary - The Times of India




Director Jibu Jacob seems to have a penchant for making his lead characters play public figures.

His previous movie Vellimoonga had Biju Menon playing the role of a political leader and his next will have Mohanlal portraying a panchayat secretary.

Mohanlal's films in a rural setting have always struck a chord with the audience, especially Vellanakalude Naadu, Mithunam and Madambi. The film's scribe M Sindhuraj assures that its treatment will be on similar lines, and says, "The setting will be mostly in and around a village office. In his capacity as the panchayat secretary, he deals with many of the residents there."
The movie's thread is inspired from VJ Thomas' short story titled Pranayopanishad.
The Elsamma Enna Aankutty scriptwriter also adds that "it will be a humour-based film." The team is hoping to begin shooting by January next year. Mohanlal is currently awaiting the release of M Padmakumar's Kanal and shooting for Vysakh's Pulimurugan.
The actor is also expected to do a Priyadarshan movie, for which scripting is being fast-tracked. The Mohanlal-Priyadarshan duo were supposed to be shooting their film in Russia this month but the team decided to put it off till May next year due to the prevailing harsh climate in the country.

 

Director Jibu Jacob is coming again to repeat his Vellimoonga luck. The young director joins hands with Mohanlal this time. Sofia Paul, who was the co-producer of Bangalore Days, produces the film. She shared her excitement to work with the complete actor on her Facebook wall. According to her Facebook post, the movie will be penned by writer Sindhuraj. The unnamed film is an adaptation of the short story “Pranayopanishath” written by writer VJ James.

Mohanlal confirmed the news on his official Facebook page. “I am happy to announce my upcoming project. The untitled project will be produced by Sophia Paul, (Weekend Blockbusters, producer of Bangalore Days) and will be directed by Jibu Jacob who directed Vellimoonga. The film is being scripted by Sindhuraj.” says the actor.

Pranayopanishath is well known short story in Malayalam writer by writer VJ James. The story narrates a passionate love life of a middle aged couple. It is considered as one of the best love stories ever written in Malayalam literature and still having a strong cult following.

Jibu Jacob’s last flick, Vellimoonga was the surprise hit of 2014 in Mollywood. The movie came to theaters as a low profile comedy film and got a lukewarm response in the first few days. But the movie took on with the help of mouth to mouth publicity and declared as a sleeper hit. The low budget film went on as far as the second highest grossing Malayalam film of the year, with a box office collection estimated as 20 crore.

Biju Menon’s portrayal of the middle aged local politician, Mamachan, cracked laughter bombs in the theaters and made a rejuvenating impact on his acting career. Aju Varghese’s supporting role Paachan became an instant hit and gave the actor enough momentum in the industry. The movie became a bit of gold for actress Nikki Galrani too.

Expectations are high when Mohanlal joins hands with the Vellimoonga director for another surprise pack. The untitled movie is shouldering the expectations from the fans of the complete actor and the dedicated readers of the short story Pranayopanishath simultaneously. The other cast and crew of the film will be revealed soon. Mohanlal is busy with the shooting of Pathmakumar movie, Kanal. The actor’s most anticipated films, Loham, directed by Ranjith, is getting ready to hit theaters on Onam.

 

Mohanlal surprised again with a Jibu Jacob project next

Some days back we gave you the report that the complete actor Mohanlal is all set for some surprising films and we also told that the project which he going to announce after each of his films will quite a surprise for all. Because from now on he only want to do films which have complete script before the shoot and he want to read it fully and if he love it then he will give a direct node to filming. That is exactly what happened today as he announced his next project through his Facebook page.

His next project after Padmakumar directorial Kanal will be with the director Jibu Jacob who shot to fame after the great success of his first film Vellimoonga which was one of the highest grossers of last year. The upcoming project will be financed by Sophia Paul of Weekend Blockbusters who was the co-producer of the Mega blockbuster named Bangalore Days which was a multi-starrer consists of top young actors of our industry. The flick will be scripted by Sindhu Raj who had given us wonderful films such as Puthiya Mukham, Elsamma Enna Aankutty etc which gave actors like Prithvi Raj and Kunchacko boban a break.

The title and other details about the film will be updated soon as Mohanlal is busy with Kanal and most probably this flick will start after the ramzan season. Kanal had one more schedule to complete and that will be shot in Dubai. Sources told us that the story of this flick has been inspired from a short story named ‘Pranayopanishathu’ written by James V j.

Jibu Jacob was a popular cinematographer before he turned director and he really surprised everyone with a huge hit that too with Biju Menon in the lead in his first film itself. Another unique thing about this film is that this will be the association of the three central pillers of the three top grossers of last year and they are Drishyam, Bangalore Days and Vellimoonga respectively. Hope this mega union will be able to create another super success at box office and another memorable one from lalettan as well.

Mohanlal's last release "Lailaa O Lailaa" failed at the Malayalam box office and his fans are excited to witness his upcoming projects.

According to the latest reports, Mohanlal is currently looking forward to the release of the movie, "Loham", directed by Ranjith. The story of this upcoming movie revolves around gold smuggling in Kerala and has impressive star cast of Andreah Jeremiah, Ajmal Ameer, Siddhique, Renji Panicker, Harish Peradi, Mythili, VK Prakash, Tini Tom, Thesni Khan, Joju George, Gauri Nanda, and Ashvin A Mathew.

Stars like Aju Varghese, Srinda Arhaan, Pearly Maney, Mani Kuttan and Mani Kuttan will also be making guest appearances in the movie.

The actor has also completed his first schedule of "Kanal" with Padmakumar and has also signed an action flick, titled "Puli Murugan", with Vyshakh.
