What helps this film is the performance of these two. They are two of the best actors around at the moment and help carry this film at times, drawn out painful experiences. The painful experiences is intended by the director, to show a mans struggle to survive and seek revenge on an excellent villain Tom Hardy. The plot circles around of a group of hunters and poachers in North America who are attacked by Sioux Indians who are looking for their kidnapped daughter, 10 of the men barely escape with their lives and are forced to hike their way back home. Leo is injured in a fantastic scene, which felt too real and from here the plot unfolds. It's a great character study of survival and what people would do under circumstances and the fight to survive, it's a harrowing journey. Even Tom Hardys characters motives are understandable and quite possibly common in that time and era. The director from Birdman Alejandro González Iñárritu produces from amazing shots and his camera style is very close to that of Birdmans. It's a fantastic movie with excellent production, setting, cinematography and above all acting. I don't think Leo will get the Oscar for this, once again, but I wouldn't be unhappy if he did. Tom Hardy should get a nomination for his performance as well. Prepare yourself for a tough grinding roll-coaster journey and watch it in the right patient mood.
