Sachin-Jigar on keeping the music inA Flying Jattcommercial yet melodious

How did you bag A Flying Jatt?

Sachin Sanghvi (SS): We have had a long association with Remo sir. We are like family and have done ABCD and ABCD 2 with him. Remo trusts us and when this project came up, he told Balaji that he didn’t want to work with anyone else but us for the music. We also have had a successful run with Bajali. Every time we have worked with them, we have delivered hits. So they agreed to sign us and that’s how we got the project.

What brief was given to you for composing the music?

SS: The film is about a superhero but it is not a regular superhero film. It has a desi track and the music had to be commercial and inviting. It had to give the audience the vibe that it is a fun film. Unlike the ABCD songs, where Remo sir wanted us to experiment, this time he told us to go all out and deliver commercial music. He wanted us to deliver a love song which could become the love anthem of the year along with a badass dance song. It’s a purely commercial album.

Can you provide some details about the title track?

Jigar Saraiya (JS): The title track is pretty much the theme of the film. It’s more about the film than the song per se. The title track has a very modern, electro, hip-hop kind of vibe. The idea was to make a song that fits in the film so its music had to be commercial but not regular.

Tell us about the challenges you faced while composing the album?

SS: We struggled while making the song Beat pe booty. We were looking for something unique and then we met Vayu (lyricist) and asked him to give us a nice hook line. When he came up with Beat pe booty, we were happy that we finally had our song. Furthermore, thedesi touch had to be intact and it was very exciting to use Punjabi phonetics because we have never worked on a pure Punjabi album before. So it was great to work on Punjabi phonetics as they are very musical. That really helped. The challenge was that there are many shades to this film.

How did you come up with a romantic track in a superhero film?

JS: The brief given to us by Remo sir, for Toota jo kabhi tara, was that he wanted a dreamland created through the music. He wanted to show an Alice In Wonderland-kind of song with a lot of colours and a romantic date that would make any girl feel like it’s a dream come true. The song had to be neo-romantic along with traditional ballet music. The melody had to be slightly mature but also one that could linger.Toota jo kabhi tara is the exact representation of Remo sir’s brief. It’s a tailor-made romantic song.

Did you keep in mind the target audience – kids – while composing the songs?

JS: Although we are catering to kids, we didn’t want to miss out on maturity. By including songs like Beat pe booty and Toota jo kabhi tara, we tried to go wider in terms of our reach.

What are your future projects?

SS: Meri Pyaari Bindu and Bang Bang 2… the title will change. Meri Pyaari Bindu is heavily narrative, so we will have all sorts of tracks like ghazals, romantic songs and a dance number too. It’s a wholesome album.
