Judwaa 2 has had an excellent weekend as collections went over 58 crore nett for the weekend. Even if we take out the holiday factor the film would still have easily crossed 50 crore nett. The holidays have probably boosted it by 4-5 crore nett. The trend over the weekend was also very good as it even managed to show growth after the holiday on Saturday. The performance of the film has been outstanding in Bihar and West Bengal and some of this is to with Durga Puja there. Delhi / UP is also huge as the weekend alone has gone to 13.50 crore nett. The collections of Judwaa 2 over the first weekend are as follows

There is a holiday for Gandhi Jayanti on Monday and collections will be strong and it will be Monday that everything will be back to normal. A fair hold there will confirm just the second HIT of this quarter and then the second Friday will tell where this film can go. In terms of weeeknds it is the fourth highest this year and the 19th highest of all time.

Judwaa 2 has taken the 19th highest opening weekend of all time and the only other film in the list from a young star is Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani while all others are mainly Khan films with one from Ajay Devgn and one from Hrithik Roshan. Salman Khan has 7 of the 20 releases which is more than one third of the top twenty films.



There is also M.S. Dhoni - The Untold Story but that was driven by the popularity of cricketer M.S. Dhoni. Another point in the list is that Judwaa 2 is the lowest budget film out of the top twenty. In fact only Judwaa 2 and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani are the only two films which do not have a budget of 100 crore plus. Below are the top twenty first weekends of all time.

Judwaa 2 has put up a big number worldwide with around 90 crore GROSS boxoffice which is fifth highest for the year. This is the best for a Varun Dhawan starrer outside Diwale beating Badrinath Ki Dulhania (76 crore) and ABCD 2 (72 crore). The overseas business will come in around the $2.5 million mark which is good for this type of film and there was no Pakistan release over the weekend which could have been one of the better markets. The film was best in Gulf where it hit $1 million and US / Canada was $600,000 plus. The main four markets of UK, US / Canada, Gulf and Australia contributed around $2 million. Judwaa 2 is among the top ten Mondays of all time as it recorded the 9th highest Monday of all time with collections of 18 crore nett apprx. It was the third best of this year after Bahubali - The Conclusion and Tubelight.



Despite having collections which are a little less than Tubelight over the first four days its has higher footfalls. So basically it has seen the largest audience so far this year out of all the outright Hindi films over the first four days, this does not incluse Bahubali 2 - The Conclusion Below are the top ten first Monday collections of all time (Hindi only).

Judwaa 2 will be challenging to become the biggest grosser of the year for the Hindi film industry. The film has held strongly on Tuesday which was going to be the first test as its the first working day. The collections on Tuesday look like they are heading towards the 7 crore nett range which is excellent. The collections on Friday were 16 crore nett so the Tuesday collections look less compared to that but Friday was boosted by holidays in some areas. On top the film is coming of a holiday period and still to be hitting 7 crore nett on a non holiday Tuesday just confirms that the audeince has accepted the film. The first week is likely to hit 95 crore nett which would make it the fourth best first week after Bahubali - The Conclusion, Tubelight and Raees.






The box office has been a downer most of the year but now it will be an interesting next two weeks as Judwaa 2 chases the figure of Raees (128.77 crore) and Toilet Ek Prem Katha which is just about to finish its run with a little over 132 crore nett. If we take out Bahubali 2 - The Conclusion then Toilet Ek Prem Katha is the biggest film of 2017 but its going to have competition from Judwaa 2 and by Diwali it could be that this Varun Dhawan starrer beats the Shahrukh Khan starrer Raees and the Akshay Kumar starrer Toilet Ek Prem Katha. The second Friday is now the next test for Judwaa 2.

 

Judwaa 2 put held up strong on its first working day with collections of 7.50 crore nett apprx. This has taken the total collection of the film to just under 84 crore nett. This hold on Tuesday means the film is set for a strong run till Diwali. The chance is there to be the highest outright Hindi grosser of 2017 depending on that crucial hold on second Friday. Toilet Ek Prem Katha which is the highest grosser of 2017 grossed around 94 crore nett in its first week and this film will probably end up with a little more than that. There is not much in the way till Diwali which will help its cause. The collections of Judwaa 2 over the first five days are as follows

There film is doing its best business in UP, Bihar and Central India markets after the holiday period and it is these markets which will lead now. The film has done the best business in multiplexes of A centres like Jaipur, Lucknow, Indore etc and it is this business which is crucial for a major hit.

 

Judwaa 2 is a SUPER HIT and has had an excellent first week of 95.25 crore nett apprx with chances to emerge the biggest hit of 2017 for the Hindi film industry. The film had very good start and then took full benefit of the holiday period and then crucially has held up strongly post the holiday period. The first week has emerged the third highest of the year after Tubelight and Raees if we dont include Bahubali - The Conclusion but that does not tell the complete story as it is higher than these two films at many stations. In Delhi / UP and Bihar, even the circuit figures are the highest of the year outside Bahubali - The Conclusion. In the all time list it is the 21st highest first week of all time and in the same range as Dilwale (2015).






The job for the film was done over the holiday period but it was important to hold well after the holidays if it was to really go on and put up a big number and that is what has happened. The film now look set to rack up good numbers till Diwali. The film has Chef as competition this week but this battle is Hindi cinema (Judwaa 2) versus foreign cinema disguised as a Hindi film (Chef) so in reality its not really competition as Hindi cinema is far superior for the Hindi film audience.



The second Friday number will give an idea of its lifetime business and although its a clear run it has to go past Toilet Ek Prem Katha in three weeks as then the Diwali films will come and Judwaa 2 will not add much after week three.
