National Award winning filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj’s upcoming period drama “Rangoon” is all set to release on February 24 next year.

The film which stars Shahid Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut and Saif Ali Khan is set in the 1940s amidst the turmoil of India’s independence struggle and will festure some epic historic references.

The film wrapped its final shoot schedule a couple of weeks back and the entire team,

including Bhardwaj, producer Sajid Nadiadwala and Ajit Andhare, COO, Viacom18 Motion Pictures, are delighted with the results.

Ever since her row with Hrithik Roshan, Kangana Ranaut has been the talk of the tinsel town. Opening up to the media and speaking out large and loud about the allegations directed to her, fetched her the labels of being ballsy, fiery, and even the emerging face of feminism. However, this time, her firebrand attitude seems to have got her foot in her mouth.

Ranaut had some time back shocked the media saying ‘Rangoon’ is a three hero movie. However, her co-star Shahid had some major difference in opinion. Delving into the issue further, Shahid commented, “Why doesn’t she say there are three heroines in the film? Is there anything less in being a heroine? There are three protagonists in the film and for me, being a hero or a heroine doesn’t make any difference. So, if saying that you being a hero makes you a bigger person, I don’t agree with that thought process.”

Kangana had also made it to the news claiming that she is the highest paid actress in Bollywood, and was paid the same fees for Rangoon as Saif and Shahid. However, Shahid has a much realistic approach regarding the payment parity issue. In an interview with Bollywoodlife, Shahid had quoted, “Pay parity depends on the saleability of a particular person. I can also sit and cry that I am getting less money than other male actors.”

When a man says something so logical about the feministic approach, we can help but laud him.

On the work front, Shahid is gearing up for Abhishek Chaubey's upcoming film, Udta Punjab, which is continuously is limelight owing to its fight against Censor Board.

 

Rangoon has generated a lot of curiosity for its casting coup. Why? It brings Kareena Kapoor's husband, Saif Ali Khan, to share screen space with her ex, Shahid Kapoor. Now, that obviously calls for an interesting watch on screen. The film has been shot, and is now on the editing table. Initially planned for a 2nd October release, the film will now hit screens only in February next year. Speaking about the delayed release, Shahid says, “It involves a lot of post-production work because the film is mounted on a grand scale. Hence, we decided to push it forward.”

However, there's something more interesting about Rangoon – the film's climax. An insider recently revealed details about the climax scene: “It's an action-packed climax scene, where we’ll see Saif's character going head-to-head with Shahid's character. It was a grueling schedule, and Saif even injured his foot filming the same.”

So, for Rangoon, it's Saif v/s Shahid again. Certain things never change. Be it on reel or in real!

 

The theatrical trailer of Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘Rangoon’ will be attached to the prints of Aamir Khan’s keenly-awaited film ‘Dangal’ which releases in theatres on December 23 this year.

The trailer is expected to be out on the internet a couple of days before the release of ‘Dangal’.

‘Rangoon’ has a incredible star cast with the likes of Shahid Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut and Saif Ali Khan sharing screen-space for the very first time. It was under Vishal’s direction that Saif delivered his career best performance in ‘Omkara’. Shahid too was at his best in films like ‘Kaminey’ and ‘Haider’.

‘Rangoon’ is scheduled to release in theatres on February 24 2017.
