Filmmaker Kabir Khan’s next Tubelight starring Salman Khan will have elements of comedy and drama with politics as its backdrop.

“It is about a personal issue. Can’t talk about what exactly right now. Needless to say my films always have a political backdrop to them because thats what excites me and I find real. So Tubelight also has a little political backdrop,” said Kabir.

Right from his debut Kabul Express, to New York and his last, Phantom, the filmmaker has helmed movies that have a strong political background.


Tubelight will mark the third collaboration between Kabir and the 50-year-old Dabangg star after blockbusters Ek Tha Tiger and Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

When asked if their upcoming film will follow the lines of Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Kabir said, “In terms of its emotional space it is similar to Bajrangi Bhaijaan. But story is very different. It is more of humour and emotional space that we (Salman and I) haven’t delved into.”

 

Salman Khan and his brother Sohail Khan have worked together in many films. The two brothers would be seen together again on the big screen, in Kabir Khan's next, tentatively titled ‘Tubelight’. The director plans to shoot for the movie in Ladakh in July. The pre-planning process has been done and the film is all set to roll as per planned schedule.

A source confirmed this and said, “Sohail is playing Salman's younger brother in the film too. It is set in the '50s and Sohail will play a mute. He will soon start prepping for the film.”

When Sohail was asked about the same, he said, “Kabir's team would be the best to answer any of your questions. I am on a family holiday.”

After Katrina was spotted with Kabir at a recent event, speculations were rife that the duo would be working together soon.

According to a source in the indudstry, no actor has been decided the film's makers to play the lead female character. The source said, "Katrina is not in the film. There will be someone else. We have not locked the actress yet.:

If Tubelight worked out with Katrina, these would Katrina and Kabir's fourth collaboration after 2009's New York, 2012's Ek Tha Tiger, and 2015's Phantom.

While New York and Ek Tha Tiger were successful at the box office, Phantom was a commercial dud.

Tubelight, which will reportedly be Salman's next Eid release, after Sultan, is a humanistic tale with an expansive political backdrop. The Bajrangi Bhaijaan star's brother Sohail Khan has supposedly been cast in the film.

Speaking on the production schedule, the source also added, "The shoot begins by the end of July in Ladakh."

Salman Khan who is still soaking under the success of Sultan is all set to start shooting for Kabir Khan’s Tubelight. The director took to Twitter to announce the beginning of the film and shared this picture which could apparently be the location of the film.



The movie is produced by Salman Khan and is slated to release on Eid 2017.
