The war of words continued between the CPI (M) and the BJP in Kerala over clashes in the state after the assembly polls. While representatives of the Kerala BJP met President Pranab Mukherjee to complain about the death of BJP worker in Thrissur, the CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury and Kerala CM-nominee Pinarayi Vijayan hit back at the BJP and the RSS, blaming them for clashes in the state. When the BJP state leadership submitted a memorandum to the President, Yechury alleged that the Sangh Parivar’s cadre had attacked Left leaders’ victory processions, because they were not ready to accept the people’s verdict, and hence one CPI (M) worker was killed. In a recent Facebook post, Pinarayi further attacked the BJP for statements in the media, asking the party to show a sense of responsibility as the ruling party. Earlier BJP Chief Amit Shah and Union Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had come down heavily on Kerala CPI (M). Speaking to the media, Prasad said that the Left parties should stop the violence in Kerala, and issued a warning to them that they should remember that it is the BJP which is ruling at the centre. In reply, Pinarayi said in a recent Facebook post, “Statements from national level leaders of BJP should not be intended to create tension in the State and negative emotions amongst its citizens.” Vijayan wrote that BJP should show a sense of responsibility as the ruling party at the centre. “BJP has lost the tolerance to accept the people’s verdict in Kerala. That is why they have unleashed violence,” he wrote. He pointed to the attack on the CPI (M) victory procession in which a party worker lost his life, and said, “The union minister is hiding this incident and speaking against the CPI(M),” he wrote. Pinarayi concluded his post saying, “Let’s respect the mandate given by people of Kerala and have a healthy level of political discourse with mutual respect leading to peace and public welfare.
