എല്ലാത്തരം പ്രേക്ഷകർക്കും ആസ്വദിക്കാവുന്ന മികച്ച ഒരു വിനോദ ചിത്രം തന്നെയാണ് പൈപ്പിൻ ചുവട്ടിലെ പ്രണയം. പുതുമയേറിയ കഥാ പശ്ചാത്തലവും അഭിനേതാക്കളുടെ മികച്ച പ്രകടനവും ഒപ്പം സാങ്കേതികമായി പുലർത്തിയ ഉയർന്ന നിലവാരവും ചേർന്നപ്പോൾ പ്രേക്ഷകരെ നിരാശരാക്കാത്ത ഒരു കമ്പ്ലീറ്റ് എന്റെർറ്റൈനെർ തന്നെയായി മാറിയിട്ടുണ്ട് ഈ കൊച്ചു ചിത്രം.

 

Paipin Chuvattile Pranayam; this one has a catchy title but at the very outset one would easily make a guess about the genre that its going to be a youthful and colorful love story. But when I read one of the Facebook post of Neeraj Madhav, the hero of this film, saying this movie wants to convey something I became curious as to what is on offer and my mind concluded that there is something serious here and much more than pure romance in PCP.

Going by the title, the film has definitely got the appeal and makeover of a love story and it has that flavor of love and romance blossoming between a boy and a girl. But beyond that PCP discusses a very serious plot and one that needs the authorities to open their eyes to find a permanent solution to a problem which has affected ordinary lives. Water scarcity and lack of drinking water is one of the issue that this small film wants to highlight and the romance that I mentioned earlier is just a cover to portray a much bigger issue.

The story is set in Pandarathuruthu, a remote place inside the city surrounded by water but the irony here is that the people of Pandarathuruthu are devoid of one their basic rights, availability of clean and pure water to drink. Fed up of the careless attitude of the concerned authorities for resolving the water scarcity, the people of the island led by the youth force the Government to act. How they do that and what the method they resort to is the major highlight of Paipin Chuvattile Pranayam.

There is a love story that happens between Govutty and Teena which is beautiful and has that innocence in it and this romantic track is portrayed till the halfway stage and once the central theme of water scarcity issue comes to the forefront, the love track is appropriately sidelined.

Even though a serious case of negligence is questioned, the film never give up its entertainment value. We have seen such instances where in the process of talking about a bigger subject, the screenplay abandon that entertainment factor and solely focus on the issue. Here in PCP, the screenplay has given adequate space both for enjoyment as well as making us think on the larger e issue that the film wanted to convey.

Neeraj Madhav appear in a full fledged role here. On the one side he is the innocent boy next door playing Govootty romancing Teena. On the other side of the picture we have Neeraj initiating a movement through his own way gathering support from his neighbors of Pandarathuruthu. He has portrayed both the roles with sincerity. Reba Monica John who was seen in Jacobintay Swargarajyam plays Teena and she was a good casting for that role.

Among the supporting actors who impressed me most was Sudhhy Kopa. Ayyapan, the character he played in the movie had enough scope to entertain the audience as well perform. Ayyapan's character was safe in his hands and it was one of his best performance to date. Sarath Kumar, Dharmajan, Jaffer Idukki, Sruthy Jayan and a long line up of some familiar faces (not sure about their names) are also there playing residents of thuruthu. Indrans in a cameo appear in a single scene but that brief portion was enough for him to bring out something special.

Technically, the movie seems to have made compromises to keep the budget under control. Bijipal is the music director and he hasn't done anything bad here to complain. Cinematography was okay and the same goes with the editing as well.

Paipin Chuvattile Pranayam may not be the best we have seen and it may have flaws but it has a heart at the right place. The subject it wanted to discuss with romance as a cover was something to be lauded. I am pretty sure that with this attempt, people who needs to act to solve issues like the one discussed here may not open their eyes but atleast making an attempt and this effort is pointing as a step in the right direction.
