Rustom has become the second biggest film of the year in terms of GROSS figures though even the combined figures of Rustom and Airlift fall below Sultan which had figures of over 400 crore and is the third film to achieve that along with PK and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. The gross numbers of Rowdy Rathore are 180.08 and Rustom has an outside chance to reach that as taxes at an all India average were slightly lower than what they are today. A 200 crore gross figure is the benchmark to achieve, this is like what 100 crore nett was a 4-5 years back. If all things equal regarding taxes then 145 crore nett will see a Hindi film hit 200 Gross. The top ten films in terms of GROSS collections for 2016 are as follows.






1. Sultan - 420.34 crore

2. Rustom - 168.25 crore apprx (18 Days)

3. Airlift - 166.03 crore (Tax Free in UP from Week Two)

4. Housefull 3 - 150.39 crore

5. Fan - 116.97 crore

6. Baaghi - 105.94 crore

7. Kapoor & Sons - 96.27 crore

8. Dishoom - 94.21 crore

8. Neerja - 90.36 crore (Tax Free in many states from second week)

9. Udta Punjab - 83.38 crore

10. Ki & Ka - 71.37 crore



There have been 14 films to hit the 200 crore GROSS mark and they can be seen here. Six of the 14 films are Salman Khan starrers highlighting his domination at the box office. Big stars like Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgan have not seen a film hit the 200 crore GROSS mark yet.

 

The Overseas market has been like the Indian market and not impressive in 2016. Sultan is a blockbuster with close to $25 million and the second highest collection ever in Gulf. It leaves two Salman Khan starrers in that circuit as Bajrangi Bhaijaan is number one. This is a first as never before has Salman Khan had the top two films in any of the three main main markets of UK, US / Canada and Gulf. Fan crossed $10 million and athough the Overseas business is better than India comparatively, its below the mark for a Shahrukh Khan starrer.



Kapoor & Sons was a super hit film in Overseas as it did very well in US / Canada and other markets. It found appreciation in most Overseas markets while India was limited to four cities and then a poor television performance. The other hits were the three Akshay Kumar starrers and Neerja. The top ten films grossers Overseas in 2016 are as follows.

3. Kapoor & Sons - $7.07 million

4. Housefull 3 - $6.87 million

5. Airlift - $6.51 million

6. Rustom - $5.5 million (17 days)

7. Mohenjo Daro - $4.3 million (17 days)

8. Ki & Ka - $4.2 million

9. Neerja - $4.14 million

10. Dishoom - $3.51 million



The Overseas market will be dependent on Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Dear Zindagi and Dangal for big Overseas returns while Befikre being an Aditya Chopra film shot in Overseas will hold chances though the cast can be a question mark in Overseas markets.
