The GROSS business of Sultan and Bajrangi Bhaijaan is very alike at 420 crore apprx. The GROSS is the amount collected at ticket windows before applying entertainment tax. There will so many vague reasons given as to why Sultan remained below Bajrangi Bhaijaan but that is only in NETT collections. In real it has not really stayed below as the amount collected at the box office is similar. Just applying taxes gives it a NETT figure which is 15 crore short. The reason for a lower NETT figure is not in the music, canvas, action or romance but because of tax.



Delhi / UP is the main reason. Sultan grossed 91.64 crore in the circuit and the nett came to 60.62 crore while Bajrangi Bhaijaan grossed 92.45 crore and the nett came to 70.62 crore. Sultan 2nd Highest TV Premiere TRP Rating of 2016, 5th Highest Ever. Salman Khan has created another Huge Television Premiere Movie Ratings Record with Sultan.

Salman Khan currently has the top two and the fifth slots of Television Premiere Ratings of Modern Era with Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Sultan.

The ratings of Sultan are less than half of what Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and Bajrangi Bhaijaan gathered but it is still the highest viewed premiere of movies release in 2016.

The interesting difference between Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Sultan premiere is that both PRDP and Bajrangi Bhaijaan aired in the afternoon slot while Sultan was in 8 PM Night Slot.

Sultan got a television rating of 1,13,10,000 impressions which is the highest of the year but well short of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Sony Max has a history of low premieres in the last couple of years though films rate very strongly on repeat runs. Still Sultan would have been expected around 15000. Repeat runs will be interesting here. The other films to put up good totals were Housefull 3, Dishoom and Baaghi while hit films like Airlift and Neerja floundered as were disasters on television. Rustom has also fared very badly on television. Fan fared poorly on both accounts. The final results Dhoni remained to be seen. Sultan, Housefull 3 and Baaghi are the three films so far this year to score on both accounts. 1. Sultan - 4,39,99,000

 

A blockbuster run of over 300 crores, an underdog hero that has become an inspiration and a heroine who has become a benchmark of rural empowerment- Yash Raj Films’ Sultan is the biggest cinematic achievement of 2016. Saluting its impact and story, the film was screened in the Indian Panaroma Section at International Film Festival of India, the country’s most prestigious film event in Goa. The film’s director, Ali Abbas Zafar was felicitated at IFFI by the deputy director of the festival, Indrani Bose.

As part of the Indian Panaroma, 'Sultan' also got a red carpet screening, a select honor on the evening of November 24. It played to a houseful audience, and received a standing ovation amongst film buffs, media from across the world and film connoisseurs. Earlier this year, Sultan had screened at Asia’s own Cannes like film event, Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) earlier this year in South Korea. Picking up from the Busan screening, Sultan also got an open air screening, with an opportunity for interaction with the audiences attending here.

Speaking from the festival, Ali Abbas Zafar, said, "Sultan tells the story of a son of the soil who takes on his personal flaws and huge professional challenges on a global scale to emerge victorious. It’s an Indian story at heart, and has universal appeal at an emotional level. That Sultan has been given such a prestigious screening here at IFFI speaks volumes for it’s cinematic impact and also proves that mainstream Hindi films can win over sections of international audiences too. I am grateful to IFFI for featuring Sultan in the Indian Panaroma section and the felicitation feels very special."

Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, Sultan's screening at IFFI is yet another achievement in a long list of many successes notched up by the film this year. Co-starring Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma, Sultan is the year’s biggest box office hit till date.
