Sultan’ booking stared three days before its release and it wasn’t a shocker that most of the shows got sold out on the same day, making filmmakers and theatres owners delighted. The big EID release has no competition and theatre owners are happily giving maximum numbers of screens to ‘Sultan’.

Distributor Akshaye Rathi said, “The advance bookings of #Sultan have opened like a tsunami! Unprecedented demand for tickets! Will break all records for advance bookings!”

The movie is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and revolves around the life of a wrestler who sees ups and downs in his career. The movie also stars Anushka Sharma in the lead opposite Salman.

Advance ticket sales for Salman Khan’s Sultanhave gone through the roof in India, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates ahead of the sports-themed drama’s worldwide launch on July 6.

The Yash Raj Films production, which co-stars Anushka Sharma, Randeep Hooda and Amit Sadh, is being released on as many as 4,200 screens in India and 1,200 screens in the rest of the world. Some trade analysts are predicting an opening day tally of 40-45 crore ($6 million-$6.7 million) in India and a lifetime total of 250-300 crore ($37.5 million-$45 million).

Tickets went on sale on Sunday, priced at a premium in India ranging from 150 crore ($22.50) to 300 crore ($45). “Advance bookings have seen a tremendous response from the patrons. The expectations are running very high and Sultan is all set to set some new benchmarks,” Kamal Gianchandani, CEO of India’s largest circuit PVR Pictures, tells Forbes.

“Sultan is one of the most awaited films of the year. Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma are pairing up for the first time. Yash Raj has aptly scheduled the film for a mid-week release on the Eid day.”

In Pakistan, exhibitor Nadeem Mandviwala reported all screenings have sold out for the first five days while Cinepax said 80% of tickets have sold in that period. That’s despite stiff opposition from Finding Dory, Ice Age: Collision Course, The Legend of Tarzan and The Secret Life of Pets plus Urdu releases Sawal Saat Sau Crore Ka and Blind Love.
