From the last two weeks, Tollywood is seeing a lull as there is no big Telugu release which has made it to the screens. This week was no different as only a few low budget dubbed Telugu films like Memu and Brahmana released.

But the entire box office was captured by Salman Khan’s Eid release Sultan. The action entertainer released in huge number of screens all over the Nizam and Andra areas and is doing absolutely great at the ticket windows.

With the festival season getting over and weekend setting in, general public are making a bee line to watch Salman in action. On the other hand, the film has crossed the 100 crore mark and is doing phenomenal business all over.

 

Sultan had a phenomenal Saturday with business of around 36.50 crore nett which takes the four day total to around 142 crore nett and if the advances for Sunday are counted the 150 crore nett barrier had already been breached by the end of business on Saturday.



The film just ran riot on Saturday especially in North India with Delhi / UP flirting with all time record collections and East Punjab growing a humongous 30% plus from high levels on Friday. It is very difficult for a commercial masala film coming on a such a wide release to grow on Saturday if its day two but here there is growth in the 20% region despite it being day four.



The Eid benefit is normally there for three days in the Muslim centres and that will have ended yesterday but it is Sunday now and normally for this type of film you would assume that Sunday will show more growth than Saturday so possibly history is about to be created with the first 40 crore nett plus day and highest single day in history.



Obviously it is not certain that Sunday will show more growth than Saturday because eventually the Sunday is day five and Muslim centres are getting back to normal but with the sort of Saturday the film has had even 10% growth will mean an extraordinary Sunday.



Basically the film is going to do similar to what Bajrangi Bhaijaan (184 cr) did in a week in five days. It could go a little higher or little lower depending on Sunday but the range is around Bajrangi Bhaijaan seven days in five days.

#Sultan starts strongly on Sunday. Best start of the week at several centres. Occupancy is very high, across the country.

 

Sultan has started very strongly on Sunday, with multiplexes at several centres taking the best start of the week. The advance booking, like we mentioned in one of our reports late last night (read), is extraordinary for the film.

Mumbai circuit, after a comparatively slower start in the first 2-3 days, is now coming into its own. The occupancy for the morning shows was phenomenal in major cities like Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad.. just to name a few. Rest of India, the story is the same. Sultan is performing at a very high level throughout the country.

It’s a foregone conclusion that Sultan will be the first film to record 30 crore on each of its first 5 days at the box office, but looking at the morning occupancy the film could touch or cross the 40 crore mark on Sunday.

With each passing day, it has also become clear that the word-of-mouth of Sultan is excellent. It’s a combination of star power, along with the film finding appreciation across the country, that’s helping Sultan record such unbelievably high numbers.

How big was Sultan’s Rs 37.1 crore total on the 4th day after its release? Check this out:

• In 2016, it was the 2nd highest single day (after 2nd day of Sultan), 70% higher than the Sunday collections of Housefull 3 (21.8 cr) and nearly twice as big as the first day of FAN (19.2 cr).
• When it comes to all time highest days, Sultan’s Saturday was better than the second day holiday collections of Bajrangi Bhaijaan (36.6 cr), bigger than the opening day of Dhoom 3 (36.22 cr) and better than the first day collections of big films like PK, Chennai Express etc.
• The 4th day collections of Sultan alone would make the film the 10th highest grosser of the year so far.
