South Box Office Report: Vijay Deverakonda-starrer Taxiwaala inches closer towards a new record in the US Vijay Deverakonda is casting his magic spell on the box office in India and overseas with his latest release Taxiwaala which is almost unstoppable. Directed by Rahul Sankrityan, Taxiwaala belongs to the Sci-Fi genre and has Vijay playing a cabbie in it. In just four days from the release date, Taxiwaala has turned out to be a profit venture for the makers after the film broke even right on day 1. And overseas, Vijay Deverakonda is all set to reach another milestone. Taxiwaala is inching closer towards the half million dollars mark in the US and with this, it will be his third film to cross this milestone, his earlier films being Geetha Govindam and Arjun Reddy. In India, Taxiwaala has earned a gross collection of a little over Rs 22 crore in the Telugu states and has clocked Rs 7 crore in rest of South India. Taxiwaala will now be another feather in the hat for Vijay Deverakonda and will be a great head start for director Rahul Sankrityan in mainstream Telugu cinema. Taxiwaala has had its share of lows when raw footage of the film got leaked on the internet and went viral a few months ago. Pirate sites uploaded the footage and that proved to be a major jolt to the film as users watched that version of Taxiwaala and foresaw the film to be a flop. However, the makers put up a strong fight against these forces and released the finished project with great conviction. The film has now turned out to be a hit despite being stricken by the piracy bug at one point.
