Udayanidhi Stalin’s latest outing Saravanan Irukka Bhayamean has all the elements of a mass entertainer - comedy, love, horror and action. But none of it works in the film. The comedy is crass, the horror makes you squirm, love is non-existent and the action is terrible.

Saravanan Irukka … has roped in almost all comedians from the industry- Madhumitha, Robot Shankar, Madan Bob, Yogi Babu, Manobala, Chaams -which quite naturally should have resulted in a laugh riot. But the film falls flat. It’s like watching various randomly chosen episodes from popular live comedy show, Kalakka Povadhu Yaaru, aired on satellite TV.

Uday who gave a neat performance in his earlier film, Manithan, fails to impress. His fans who were howling and hooting initially, walked out of the theatre silently. Soori has to change his style of comedy and reinvent himself to get to the next level.

Wonder why director Ezhil chose such a mundane script; his strength being comedy. But even that doesn't work here at all.

Had writer Sakthi Rajasekaran treated Yeidhavan without adding unnecessary commercial elements and preachy dialogues, the film would have been an engaging action thriller like Suseenthiran’s Naan Mahan Alla. But now, Yeidhavan can be only termed as a film with an interesting concept that fails to turn impressive mainly due to commercial compromises and lack of fine writing.

Yeidhavan is actually not a bad film, it indeed provides quality entertainment in places. The interval point, where the motive of two enemies converges is a brilliant idea, we only wish the film had more such well written moments. The first half actually worked well but post-intermission, the director follows the regular revenge template that we are able to easily predict the next scene.

Technically, Yeidhavan looks like a five years old film and the visual clearly conveys that the film was shot on a limited budget. To conclude, the film had an interesting plot but the shoddy execution in second half make it an average watch.

    Verdict: Average watch

Vetri Maaran always has the knack to spot the right talents and introduce them to Kollywood. After Udhayam NH4, Kaakka Muttai, the acclaimed director has yet again given a notable film through his banner Grassroot Films. Yes, we are talking about Lens, directed by independent debut filmmaker Jayaprakash Radhakrishnan.

Lens neither falls into the mainstream category nor in the artistic category. It has some real intense moments that will make you excited and thrilled, but the core theme of the movie is not catered for the mainstream family audience. The film is an honest attempt to make a sensible cinema, that talks about the dangers and dark side of consuming pornographic videos and cyber sex crime. Lens can be labeled as a never before seen film in Kollywood, which throws out a strong message with a decent, engaging narration.

Jayaprakash Radhakrishnan has given one brutally honest film that might impact you in many ways, as it will connect to many of today’s teenagers and youngsters. The film handles a very sensitive subject, and even going slightly beyond the border line, might have backfired the movie. Jayaprakash’s matured way of handling the story and screenplay is notable in that context.
