We have seen Rajinikanth in many avatars but in Kabali, we will see him playing his age. Kabali director Pa Ranjith is giving us a typical Rajinikanth film while keeping it real. You think it is hard to pull off? Not as hard as satisfying Rajinikanth fans, delivering a Rs 500 crore hit, beating Baahubali at box office and keeping the film real.
Director Pa Ranjith appears to be confident that he will be able to deliver on all counts. Before the Rajinikanth starrer Kabali comes out, we give you five revealations that the director made recently.
1. In Kabali, meet the actor Rajinikanth. In Kabali, bid adieu to superstar Rajinikanth.
Pa Ranjith has said the gangster film set in Malaysia is a different kind of Rajini film. “When I was writing the screenplay, the image of the Superstar was coming into Kabali. But I have tried my best to push it aside and only in some portions where I felt the audience needed him, I used the image. On the whole, the film will have my realistic touch,” he told Firstpost in an interview.

 

2. Kabali may have been a supernatural, sci-fi drama
When Rajinikanth’s daughter Soundarya first approached the Madras director, he offered two scripts. “She (Soundarya) reiterated that her dad (Rajinikanth) and family loved Madras and that I should come up with storylines for him to consider. So I gave two options: the story of a Malaysian don and a supernatural movie of the sci-fi genre. They immediately picked the don story and asked me to develop the script,” he revealed to Hindu.

 

3. Kabali has no Rajinikanth cliches
Pa Ranjith has ensured no cliched mannerisms associated with the actor are in the film. “Whenever the ‘Superstar’ elements came out, I was able to control it. He (Rajinikanth) would laugh it off saying ‘I am not at all an actor’. I wanted to recreate that Rajini in Mullum Malarum… After we wrapped up, he told me that none of his clichéd scenes were there. For eg: his specialty is his fast walk. But in this movie he walks slowly.”

 

4. Rajinikanth speaks a lot of Malay in the film
Kabali is the story of Kabaleeswaran who fights for the rights of Malaysian Tamils. So, does the star speak a lot of Malay in the film? “Rajinikanth speaks a lot of Malay in the film. And he’s done it superbly too!” Pa Ranjith told the newspaper.

 

5. Kabali may have a sad ending
While Pa Ranjith has not said it in as many words, he has claimed that producer Kalaippuli S Thanu and Soundarya wanted Kabali to end on a fun note. However, Rajinikanth advised the director not to change the climax as it will remain the biggest highlight of the movie. This is being interpreted as a sad ending in the movie.
