Released amid sky-high expectations on Friday, Super Star Rajinikanth’s intense gangster drama, Kabali, received flak for its lethargic and uninspiring screenplay without the quintessential Rajini brand mass elements.

Many even termed Kabali a wasted opportunity for its director Pa Ranjith, who surprised everyone when he grabbed the once in a lifetime opportunity to direct Rajinikanth last year.

A day after Kabali’s release, the young director reacted to the negative criticism Kabali in an extended interview to a leading English news daily. Ranjith said that Rajini himself was happy after watching Kabali and told him “it is not a usual Rajini film”. The director adds saying that Rajini asked him not to worry about the film saying that “will love it”.

Ranjith further said that takes both negative and positive reactions dispassionately and continue to make movies that will carry social responsibility.

 

We have already reported last night that the makers of Super Star Rajinikanth’s Kabali have decided to shorten the film’s runtime, following the mixed critic reviews and average word of mouth from fans and moviegoers.

According to the latest update, 12 minutes of the film’s duration will be chopped off and the short and taut Kabali will be screened to the public starting from Monday.

Meanwhile, despite the average reviews, Kabali has taken the worldwide box-office by storm and the film has smashed all the existing box-office records.

 

Kabaali (Hindi) grossed 13.25 crore nett which is not good enough for the costs but its a fair result for a dubbed film from the South. The Tamil version has done much better in the Hindi markets and those prints are included in the price and if added on it will be 15.50-16 crore nett weekend. The film has done pretty well in Mumbai and Central India markets but North and East are poor. Despite so so business it has easily beaten Madaari despite being a dubbed film. The all India collections of Kabali will be updated later. The weekend business of Kabali (Hindi) is as follows.
