Images from Twitter Deccan Chronicle reports that two huge films are eyeing the Christmas weekend this year after Nitesh Tiwari's wrestling biopic Dangal, starring Aamir Khan, made history last year by becoming the highest grossing Hindi film ever. This year seems to be even a better setting as the Friday is on 22 December, leading to a long four-day weekend till Monday, 25 December. Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, who saw record-breaking successes with his last two films 3 Idiots and PK that released on Christmas, is looking forward to release his next, Sanjay Dutt's biopic, on the Christmas weekend as well. The film features Ranbir Kapoor as Dutt, along with Sonam Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal in important roles. Prepping for a heads-on collision with this one is Ali Abbas Zafar's action thriller Tiger Zinda Hai starring Salman Khan and Ranbir's ex Katrina Kaif, who happens to be Salman's ex as well. The film is the sequel to Kabir Khan's super hit 2012 film Ek Tha Tiger. However, Ali will don the director's hat in this one after his collaboration with Salman in the second highest grosser of last year, the sports drama Sultan. It is interesting to note that both Ek Tha Tiger and Sultan released around Eid, which is considered an auspicious occasion for all Salman films. While Christmas is traditionally reserved for Aamir, the actor has chosen to release his next Secret Superstar around Eid in August, a week apart from Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Rahnuma, a romantic drama directed by Imtiaz Ali. While Salman will soon start shooting for Tiger Zinda Hai after wrapping up Kabir's period war drama Tubelight, Hirani's Dutt biopic will go on floors on 14 February, according to the report by Catch News. Hirani has surely set his eyes on the Christmas weekend whereas Yash Raj Films, the production house of Tiger Zinda Hai, does not seem to back out of that plan either. The clash may prove detrimental to both films. Probably the Raees-Kaabil clash this month will give them a good reason to reschedule their releases.

A source told the daily that when Rajkumar Hirani told Aamir that he wanted to meet the actor, he told him that he wanted to cast Aamir in the biopic. When Raju and his writer Abhijat began the narration, Aamir was shocked. Because the role Mr Hirani offered him was that of Sanjay's father Sunil Dutt. Aamir told Raju, “I thought you were coming to narrate the role of Sanjay Dutt. I am not interested in playing the role of his father.” Seems like Aamir really wanted to play the role of Baba in the film and after he refused to play the role of his father, the role landed in the lap of Paresh Rawal.
Sanjay Dutt biopic: Ranbir Kapoor spend a week in Bhopal jail Ranbir Kapoor is pulling out all the stops for his portrayal as Sanjay Dutt in the superstar’s biopic. Having already gained weight for the role, Ranbir Kapoor will now reportedly be staying in a jail to gain first hand experience. The crew are currently in Bhopal and according to Hindustan Times, the talented actor will spend up to a week experiencing the trials and tribulations of prison life to fully portray the emotions of Dutt. Dutt, who was jailed for possession of illegal arms, spent years in a Pune jail. The biopic, being directed by Rajkumar Hirani, will focus on three phases of Dutt’s life and Kapoor is doing his utmost to ensure he can get into both the physical and mental demands of the role. Ranbir Kapoor would be showcasing three phases of Sanjay Dutt’s life and in each phase he would be seen in different avatar. The other Bollywood actors who have been roped in for Sanjay Dutt biopic include Paresh Rawal as Sunil Dutt, Manisha Koirala as Nargis, Anushka Sharma will play the role of a journalist and Sonam Kapoor as Sanjay’s earlier love interest.
Actress-producer Dia Mirza, who will play the role of Sanjay Dutt's wife Manyata in the actor's biopic, says it's wonderful to be part of the project. She is glad the project is giving her a chance to work with one of her favourite filmmakers Rajkumar Hirani, who is directing the film. "I am working on Sanjay Dutt's biopic right now, and I am really excited about it. It's wonderful film to be part of, and to be directed by my favourite filmmaker," Dia told IANS on the sidelines of the fourth day of Amazon India Fashion Week (AIFW) Autumn/ Winter 2017 here. How easy or difficult is it to portray a real-life character on the big screen? "I think for an actor, the work is only as difficult as a written material. With the team so sound and with such a wonderful environment out there, you feel nothing but to put your best foot forward," Dia said. "I would like to believe that whether it is playing a real-life character or fictional character, the idea is to understand what you are doing and the purpose of your presence should matter." "What you need to do is to take the story forward... That should matter the most," added the actress, who has worked with Sanjay in films like 'Parineeta' and 'Lage Raho Munna Bhai'. Veteran actor Paresh Rawal is playing the role of Sunil Dutt, while Sanjay's part is being brought alive by Ranbir Kapoor in the biopic. In the movie, Ranbir will reportedly essays Sanjay Dutt in three phases of his life by sporting 6 differents looks throughout the movie from ‘Rocky’ to Khalnayak’ to ‘Munnabhai MBBS’ and also another avatar which reflects his prison phase. According to Bollywood Life, Says a source, “Ranbir started with the long hair and beefed up look, which will continue for a while. After a break of two months, he will have to lose all the bulk weight and become lean. It’s the phase which represents Sanjay’s look from his debut film Rocky.
