Raam Reddy's National Award-winning feature film Thithi is now set to hit screens in major cities on June 3, after winning international acclaim and a successful theatrical release in Karnataka. The critically acclaimed Kannada film will release with English subtitles. "Thithi has seen amazing organic growth and has grown from strength to strength. National support and praise from people like Anurag Kashyap and other top national industry leaders has been incredibly encouraging," the film-maker has said. "Now in its third week, Thithi is still running housefull in urban centers and I couldn't be happier with the response. Hollywood and Bollywood have dubbed Thithi as a universal 'world film'. After seeing the unprecedented response to Sairat, running with English subtitles for national audiences, I can't wait to see the response to Thithi nationally," Raam said in a statement. Produced by Pratap Reddy and Sunmin Park, Thithi was screened in over 12 prestigious international and national film festivals and won 13 awards. The movie started its journey at the prestigious Work-in-Progress Lab (WIP) at the NFDC Film Bazaar, 2014 where it was declared the Best WIP Fiction Feature. Written by Ere Gowda and co-written by Raam, Thithi is a dramatic comedy about how three generations of sons react to the death of the oldest in their clan, a man named Century Gowda: a locally renowned, highly cantankerous 101-year-old man. Set in a small village in Karnataka, the three storylines intertwine before converging at Century Gowda's "thithi" the final funeral celebration, 11 days after a death. The film was released by Suresh Movies in Karnataka on May 6 and has got a tremendous response in its home territory.
Crazy Star Ravichandran Talks About His Film 'Apoorva'Crazy star Ravichandran, in an interview to Times of India, has opened up about his upcoming movie Apoorva, which narrates the love story between a 61-year-old man and a 19-year-old girl. Since the film will narrate two parallel stories, Ravichandran has said he wanted to try something, that has never been tried before in Sandalwood. "I actually wanted to try something drastically different with this film. For instance, since there are two stories that take place simultaneously, I initially experimented with splitting the screen in half to show what was happening inside the lift in one and what was happening outside the lift in the other. I had planned it in such a way that it is up to the audience to decide which half they wanted to follow. But over time, I realized that such a format might confuse people as far as this story is concerned, so I dropped the idea. I did lose 3-4 months on this experiment, but I will work on the format in the future for sure." The entire story unfolds inside a stuck elevator. "When two people are stuck in a lift, that is their world, with no further influences. So much so that you even forget about what is 'acceptable' according to society. Add to that the possibility of death being a part of your love story, and the prospects become even more focused. But what happens when death gives you another chance at life?," he has asked.
Oscar-winning sound editor and mixer Resul Pookutty, has made his Kannada debut. He will work in Apurva Kasaravalli's upcoming filmNiruttara. Apurva, son of acclaimed film-maker Girish Kasaravalli, will make his directorial debut through Niruttara. Speaking to Times of India, Apurva has revealed how he managed to rope in the Academy Award winner. "It wasn't as big a task as one would expect. I asked a friend of mine to put me in touch with Resul and I then narrated the script to him. He liked the story, as well as how I had planned to use sound in the film. The thing about technicians like Resul is that they need to be convinced of the story and the team, irrespective of how big the project is. I'm glad that he felt this was the right project for him to make his Kannada debut," he has said. Niruttara starsRahul Bose, Aindrita Ray and Bhavana in important roles.
