Even as Mani Ratnam is busy hunting locations for his tentatively titled ‘Kurithipookkal’ starring Karthi and Aditi Rao Hydari the project has been reportedly sold out to Sri Thenandal Films for the TN theatricals and to Bandla Ganesh for the Andhra Pradesh and Telengana region. Negotiations are already on for the overseas rights where the ace director's films are always big winners.

The romantic thriller produced by Madras Talkies has music by A.R.Rahman and cinematography by Ravi Varman. The rest of the cast and crew details will be out soon.

 

Actor Karthi, who plays a pilot in film-maker Mani Ratnam's yet-untitled Tamil romantic drama, is currently undergoing a crash course in flying.

"Karthi is learning the basics of flying, which includes even simple things like how to be seated while in the pilot's seat. It will be a 2-3 weeks crash course and upon completion, the makers will finally take the film on the floors," a source from the film's unit told IANS.





Karthi plays an NRI in the film. He falls in love with a doctor, which will be played by Aditi Rao Hydari, while on a trip to India.

Although the project was originally supposed to star Sai Pallavi as its female lead; she was recently replaced by Aditi, who will be making her Tamil comeback.


The actress, predominantly seen in Hindi cinema, made her Tamil debut way back in 2007, when she played an important role inSringaram.

The regular shooting of the project is supposed to start from June, and the team is targeting a year end release.

Produced by Ratnam's Madras Talkies, the film will have its music composed by 'Isaipuyal' AR Rahman and cinematography will be spearheaded by Ravi Varman.

Meanwhile, Karthi is also busy wrapping up work on his upcoming horror film, Kaashmora. Being directed by Gokul of Rowthiram andIdharkuthaney Aasaipattai Balakumara fame, the film also stars Nayantara, Dri Divya, Manisha Yadav and Vivekh in important roles.

Interestingly, Vivekh will be seen playing Karthi's father in the movie, which will have its music composed by Santhosh Narayanan.

For the 3D scan technology used in the film, Karthi's face was scanned at a studio here in Chennai. It is said that Kaashmora is the first Tamil film to have implemented the technology in India.

For movies like Maattrraan and Kochadaiiyaan,the same technology was executed at studios in the United States.

 

Mission Kashmir: Mani Ratnam to return to the Valley for his next starring Karthi



With 2015's O Kadhal Kanmani going on to be a runaway hit in both Tamil and Telugu, Mani Ratnam has further cemented his brand as a filmmaker with pan-India appeal.OK Kanmani worked even with Hindi-speaking audiences (it was screened with English subtitles) and became the highest grosser among regional films in north Indian multiplexes.

Now, we hear that Mani is all set to make another film - partly set in Kashmir. The new untitled film, to be produced by Mani's Madras Talkies, will have Tamil hero Karthi (the younger brother of actor Suriya) and Aditi Rao Hydari in the lead, with music by AR Rahman and camera by Ravi Varman (Goliyon Ki Rasleela: Ram-Leela, Barfi, Tamasha etc). The film is rumoured to be a romantic entertainer mixed with terrorism, one of Mani's favourite themes (remember Roja, Dil Se, Kannathil Muthamittal).



The grapevine has it that Karthi is playing a pilot who falls in love with a doctor (Aditi's character). Karthi is currently undergoing a crash course in flying, to make it more authentic, as flying an aircraft is a pivotal part of the story. The story of the film of course has been kept under wraps but Mani Ratnam had made a few recce trips to Kashmir, to get permission to shoot in the valley. If permission to shoot in certain sensitive areas is denied, then sources close to the director say he will then zoom in on Himachal Pradesh, an alternative location.

Incidentally, a large part of Roja was shot in and around Shimla, and passed off as Kashmir. Ratnam has revisited the valley 24 years after this path-breaking Tamil film, which featured Arvind Swamy and Madhoo, and marked the launch of AR Rahman's film music career (some portions of the Shah Rukh Khan-Manisha Koirala starrer Dil Se also depicted Kashmir).

Roja was dubbed in Hindi and became a blockbuster, opening the doors for Mani in Bollywood. After the cold reception toRaavan (2010), the Abhishek Bachchan-Aishwarya Rai-Vikram starrer, Mani has stayed away from making Bollywood films.

Meanwhile there has been no official announcement from Mani Ratnam or Madras Talkies regarding his new film. The shoot of the film is likely to commence by July end (depending on the permissions being granted by the J&K government).

However, even before the shoot of the film started, most of its rights have been sold. The biggest Tamil distribution concern Sri Thenandal Films has taken over the Tamil theatrical rights of the film, while the Telugu theatricals have also been sold. The overseas right has also been grabbed for an astronomical rate. The buzz is that there will be also a Hindi dubbing of the film, as North Indian television channels are trying their best to procure the satellite rights.

At 60, Mani Ratnam clearly continues to be the biggest brand in south Indian cinema.

 

It's known that following the exit of Sai Pallavi, the Premam (Malayalam) sensation, from Mani Ratnam's film, Aditi Rao Hydari has been roped in as Karthi's romantic interest.

The news is that the finest director has issued instructions to the lead pair to brace up for the shoot. Before the film can be taken to floors, Karthi will have to learn the ropes with respect to flying a plane as he plays a pilot's role. As for the damsel of Rockstar, Boss, and Wazir fame, she must participate in a workshop along with Karthi in order to rehearse scenes together to get the chemistry right.

Both Karthi and Aditi must be gung-ho about working with Mani. Aditi, who began her career with a Malayalam film in 2006, only to act in a Tamil film later in 2007, is specially lucky. A trained Bharatanatyam dancer, Aditi hails from the family which owns Orient Blackswan.

It will go on floors sometime in September.

 

Ever since he first collaborated with his mentor and legendary auteur Mani Ratnam for Roja in 1991, musical genius AR Rahman has been composing for all of Mani’s films. Rahman will once again score for Mani’s as yet-untitled film starring Karthi and Bollywood actress Aditi Rao Hydari.

The film, which has been delayed for several months for various reasons, is expected to go to sets in August. According to the reports, Rahman has already begun composing for the film and he has already recorded a beautiful track for this romantic drama.

Karthi will be playing the role of a pilot and Aditi will be seen as a doctor. Ravi Varman will be the cinematographer.

 

It is a known fact that super star Karthi will be doing a film in the direction of Mani Rathnam and he, will be seen as a pilot in the film. Latest update reveals that Karthi will loose weight for his role and will be seen in a complete new look for this urban love story.

Some renowned stylists from Mumbai have been roped in to give a much needed make over to Karthi. Bollywood actress, Aditi Singh Hydari plays the female lead in this film which will have music by A R Rahman.

Shooting will kick start in July and the film will mostly be shot in Chennai and Shimla. Watch out this space for more updates on this project.

 

Finally, legendary auteur Mani Ratnam’s next project will go to the sets on the 8th of this month. Mani has been trying to kick-start his next film after the highly successful OK Bangaram since last year.

The director had earlier planned a trilingual revenge drama starring Karthi and Dulquer Salmaan. After Dulquer’s exit from the project due to unavailability of dates, Nani stepped into the project. But much to the disappointment of many, the film was shelved eventually.

It was then that Mani planned a romantic drama featuring Karthi and Aditi Rao Hydari. In this film, Karthi will be seen as a pilot, while Aditi will essaying a doctor’s role. Mani Ratnam’s regular AR Rahman will be scoring the music.

 

Popular Tamil radio jockey Balaji has been roped in to play a pivotal role in ace director Mani Ranam’s soon to be commenced romantic entertainer. Balaji is best known for his performance as Vijay Sethupathi’s friend in Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, he is also playing an important role in GV Prakash Kumar’s Kadavul Irukaan Kumaru.

The yet-to-be-titled film will have Karthi and Aditi Rao Hydari in lead roles while music composer AR Rahman is in charge for songs and original score.
