Video: Idiots race Mercedes C-Class with Mahindra XUV500 at 190 km/h on public highway

Though we condemn these kinds of acts, we were pleasantly surprised that the Mahindra punched its way ahead of the Mercedes. However, we don’t doubt for a moment that the 140 PS strong 2.2-litre diesel engine is strong enough to push the XUV500 to speeds nearing 200 km/h. Take it to the track guys.

According to J.D. Power 2015 India APEAL Study, new-car buyers in India focus on exterior styling of the vehicle
The India APEAL study is based on owner evaluations during the first two to six months of ownership of the vehicle. Grounded in 30 major cities between May and September 2015, the 2015 edition of the study is deduced by evaluations from 8,428 owners of new vehicles purchased between November 2014 and July 2015.

Overall APEAL performance is reported as an index score based on a 1,000-point scale, with a higher score indicating higher satisfaction. The overall APEAL score averages 846 in 2015, down 8 points from 2014. There is an increase in the importance of vehicle exterior pertaining to small car, midsize and utility vehicle segments.

The study calculates owner satisfaction across ten categories such as vehicle exterior; vehicle interior; storage and space; entertainment/navigation systems; seats; heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC); driving dynamics; engine/transmission; safety features and fuel economy.

Toyota and Hyundai have won three awards each across three different segments. While Volkswagen Vento ranks highest in the midsize segment and Mahindra XUV 500 ranking high in the SUV segment.

All-new Ford Endeavour launch in January 2016; variants and features of India-spec models revealed

Ford India has confirmed that the all-new Endeavour will be launched in January 2016. The website has also been updated with all the features and variants of the 7-seat premium SUV, including the brochure.

The new new Endeavour will come equipped with two diesel engines from Ford’s Duratorq family. First up is the 3.2-litre, Duratorq, five-cylinder TDCi diesel engine that delivers 197 hp of power and 470 Nm of torque. This engine will be exclusively paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission and a 4WD system with Terrain Management that has three modes – Normal, Snow/Gravel/Grass, Sand and Rock.

The second engine is a 2.2-litre Duratorq, four-cylinder, TDCi diesel unit that puts out 158 hp of power and 385 Nm of torque. This engine can be had with either six-speed automatic or manual transmissions, with 4WD being an option. In 2017, Ford India plans to introduce the Endeavour with an India made 2.2-litre diesel engine, to be dubbed the Panther.

    Variants

In India, the new Endeavour will be available in two trim levels – Trend and Titanium. Here’s how the variants and trim levels are positioned in conjunction with the drive-train options:

    • 2.2l 4X2 MT Trend
    • 2.2l 4X2 AT Trend
    • 2.2l 4X4 MT Trend
    • 3.2l 4X4 AT Trend
    • 2.2l 4X2 AT Titanium
    • 3.2l 4X4 AT Titanium

The new Endeavour will feature equipment like Semi Auto Parallel Park Assist, Rear View Camera, Climate Control, Ford’s Sync 2 infotainment system with a wide touchscreen, two USB ports, and SD card slot. Comfort and convenience goodies include leather upholstery, LED interior lighting, 3rd row seats with power folding and 50:50 split, power tail gate, Active Noise Cancellation, a sun roof and a “multi-intelligent” instrument cluster with two TFT screens. On the safety front, the new Endy will bring in as many as 7 air bags, Hill Descent Control, Hill Launch Assist, Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control and Torque on Demand. A variant wise feature list is not available yet.

Ford has not revealed the prices for this upcoming SUV but we expect the new Endeavour range to carry a price tag of INR 20-28 lakh. To be locally assembled at Ford’s Chennai plant with minimal levels of localization, the new Endeavour will rival SUVs like the Chevrolet Trailblazer, Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Sport, the Ssangyong Rexton and Hyundai Santa Fe.
