Turbocharged Hyundai i20 Sport launched in Germany, may hit Indian shores too Hyundai unveiled a special sport edition of their i20 in Germany. Dubbed as the Hyundai i20 Sport, the perky hatchback is powered by the car maker’s new turbocharged downsized petrol engine. The new family of engines is developed at Hyundai’s German technical centre in Russelsheim. The Hyundai i20 Sport was launched with a price tag of 19,990 Euros (around INR 14 lacs). The all new power packed Kappa T-GDI engine under the hood of the i20 Sport is a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit equipped with a single-scroll turbo that generates power of 120bhp with a max torque of 172 Nm. The power is pushed to the wheels by a 6-speed manual transmission. The engine is said to be very energetic for the i20 Sport and does 0-100 km/h in 10.3 seconds. While being frisky, the i20 also manages to do economical fuel figures as it comes armed with a direct injection tech on its small displacement engine. The claimed number stands at 20kmpl. The most powerful i20 of the town, 1.4-litre Hyundai i20 N Sport, is taken down by the new 1.0-litre i20 Sport. It is expected that Hyundai will introduce their new family of engines to the Indian market considering the recent spotting of Maruti Suzuki Baleno with a similar 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine.

Jaguar XE spied undisguised ahead of launch at Auto Expo The Jaguar XE was confirmed to debut at the upcoming Auto Expo in earlier reports, and now undisguised images of the XE have surfaced online. The XE, which was reportedly imported for homologation purposes, came through the CKD route with a price tag of Rs. 24.97 lakhs though the launch price will be reasonably higher. If the company manages to unveil the car at the said price tag, it will prove to be a tough competition to its rivals. Powering the Jaguar XE would be 3 engine variants: a 3.0 litre supercharged V6 diesel engine producing 335 hp of peak power, a 2.0 litre four cylinder petrol engine producing a power output of 197 hp and a new 2.0 litre diesel unit from JLRs Ingenium engine family that will produce 161 hp. These engines will be mated to an eight speed automatic gearbox. 4.9 seconds is what it takes for the car to sprint from 0-100 in the top trim while the 250 km/ph it what it is electronically limited to. Coming to the dimensions, the car measures 4,672 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, 1,416 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,835 mm. On the inside, the XE features an all new 10.2 inch (26 cm) dual view touch-screen for the infotainment section apart from InControl Touch Pro, the conventional JLR multimedia system. Once launched, the Jaguar XE will lock horns with the Mercedes Benz C-Class, the BMW 3 series and the Audi A4 that come with a price tag of Rs. 40 lakhs, Rs. 36 lakhs and Rs. 32 lakhs respectively. Certain reports suggested that the XE could be assembled at the vehicle will be assembled in India but there is still no official word on the same. The bookings have reportedly opened at an amount of Rs. 1 lakh while deliveries are expected to begin by February 20th.

Mercedes-Benz India posts record sales for 2015 The Indian arm of German automaker Mercedes-Benz ended the year 2015 on an upbeat note as it registered its highest ever sales in the country. The carmaker announced today that it has sold a record 13,502 units in the year ending December 2015, up 32 percent as against 10,201 units sold in 2014. Mercedes-Benz also said that it would be adding 12 new products to its portfolio in 2016 and open 10 new showrooms. That apart, the carmaker will also focus on the Tier II and III markets to drive its growth. Last year, the carmaker was on a product offensive as it launched 15 new products as a part of its '15 in 15' product strategy. The C-class emerged as the highest-selling car with more than 90 percent growth, replacing the E-class as the top seller in India. The carmaker’s SUV portfolio grew 100 percent followed by the AMG portfolio at 54 percent and sedans at 42 percent. Hatchbacks such as the A-class and B-class registered strong double digit growth, the carmaker said in a statement, adding that for the first time ever, Mercedes-Benz India retailed 503 units using digital platforms.
