Volkswagen will be introducing a new compact sedan in India. It was reported that the car could be named Bora or Derby. However, according to a new media report, the car could be called Ameo. The Ameo is expected to make its debut at the 2016 Auto Expo. It will measure less than 4 metres in lengths and is likely to be powered by the same 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol and the 1.5-litre diesel engines that are used in the Polo. This will allow it to enjoy excise duty benefits. There are rumours that the 1.2-litre TSI petrol engine and the automatic transmission from the Polo GT TSI may be used as well.
Honda is reported to be considering the possibility developing a small car, which will be built specifically for the Indian market. The company plans to position it above the Maruti Suzuki Alto and WagonR. Honda is planning to develop this car at its local research centre. Honda has also indicated that the development of the car's platform and engine will be supported by Honda Japan, the exterior and interior is likely to be developed locally. A high level of localisation is expected to help the company price the product competitively. While Honda has revealed its intentions to develop this car, it has not given any details on the vehicle itself or its likely launch date. However, industry experts believe that the car will be launched around 2020. The company could also export the car to other countries. With the introduction of this new model, the company plans to increase its share in the Indian, which is the fifth-largest in the world.
Earlier this year, Hyundai deleted and added some features to the Elite i20. Now the company has given the hatchback some more updates. The Asta (O) trim level comes with glossy black C-Pillars instead of the matte black units seen on the other variants. It also gets a shorter roof-mounted radio antenna instead of the long unit seen before. Both these changes are carried over from the i20 Active. Coming to deletions, the auto-dimming IRVM has been dropped from the list of features on the Asta (O). It was available on the variant when it was launched in August 2015. The Elite i20 is one of Hyundai's best-selling models in the country. Domestic sales of the car have crossed 1.5 lakh units since it was launched in August 2014.
Maruti Suzuki was offering discounts and benefits of up to Rs. 1 lakh on the S-Cross. Now, dealers in Delhi are offering even higher discounts on the S-Cross DDiS 320. A discount of Rs. 2,90,000 is available on the Delta trim level of the S-Cross DDiS 320. The Zeta and Alpha come with discounts of Rs. 2,00,000. The dealerships are also reported to be offering some freebies such as alloy wheels and Garmin navigation on the Delta trim level. The DDiS 320 is powered by a 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that develops 118 BHP @ 3,750 rpm and 320 Nm of torque @ 1,750 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The S-Cross was launched in India in August. It is sold through Maruti's Nexa dealership network and has not had a very favourable response. By offering big discounts and schemes on it, the company is making an effort to improve its sales.

General Motors has announced that it has recalled 101,597 units of the Chevrolet Beat diesel manufactured between December 2010 and July 2014. The company will inspect and if necessary, replace the clutch pedal lever in these cars. The clutch pedal lever is susceptible to cracking on continued usage. This is the second recall the company has issued for the Beat in this calendar year. In July, the company had recalled model along with the Enjoy and Spark due to a wiring issue linked to the remote keyless entry system.
