Central Board of Film Certification has been on a ban spree from a while. From censoring kissing scenes in James Bond Spectre to banning the trailer of Aligarh; they have done it all.

But, the s*** hit the fan when CBFC demanded 89 cuts in Udta Punjab, a film which is trying to impart social awareness. The board even wanted the name of the state to be dropped from the title. However, the entire film industry spoke out against the CBFC and its chairperson Pahlaj Nihalani and in no uncertain terms showed how disappointed they were with the entire process.

We now have the details of the cuts censor board wants in the film; and going by the report, it’s sort of evident that the censorship demand is driven by motives which have nothing to do with the film’s effect on the audience or how it portrays the state.

Here are some of the cuts which CBFC wants

1. Cut: Delete the signboard of Punjab in the beginning

2. Delete the name of cities like Punjab, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Tarn Taran and more (All reference of Punjab cities in the dialogues/songs anywhere in the film should be removed)

3. From Song Number 1: Name of a drug (References to drug nowhere in the film whould be present)

4. Words from song 3 (Delete the word 'Chitta' from the song)

6. Delete Abuses

7. Delete the word elections, MP, party, Party Worker, MLA, Punjab parliament(No govt. rep references: 38 mins)

8. Song no:3 Delete the scene of a scratching Sardar.

9. Censor board wants long disclaimers like: The film focuses on the rising menace of drugs and the war against drugs and is an attempted effects of drugs. We acknowledge he battle against drugs being fought by the government and police, but it can't be won unless people of India unite against this menace"

Here's The List Of Things Pahlaj Nihalani Wants To Cut From Udta Punjab!



The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) informed the Bombay High Court on Wednesday (June 8), that they had granted 'A' certificate to the drug-themed movie 'Udta Punjab' after ordering some cuts.


Earlier, producer Anurag Kashyap had approached the Bombay High Court claiming that his film hadn't received any certification from CBFC despite the officials watching the movie on June 3.



Here’s a complete list of all the cuts demanded by Censor Board for Udta Punjab.



1) Remove or mute all references to Punjab from the film, including its title, dialogues, and a close-up shot of a signboard.



2) Remove references to names of cities like Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ludhiana and Moga from all the dialogues.



3) Include a disclaimer at the start of the film that reads: “The film focuses on the rising menace of drugs and the war against drugs and is an attempt to show the ill-effects of drugs on today’s youth and social fabric. We acknowledge the battle against drugs being fought by the government and the police. But this battle can’t be won unless the people of India unite against the menace.”



4) Cut close-up shots of characters injecting themselves with drugs.



5) Cut dialogue in which a dog is referred to as “Jacky Chain”.



6) Remove these words from the film: election, MP, party, MLA, parliament, harami.



7) Cut visuals of Shahid Kapoor urinating and a “sardar scratching his side”.

 

Udta Punjab' issue reflects badly on CBFC: Aamir Khan



Bollywood actor-producer Aamir Khan, known for raising his voice on social causes, on Wednesday said "Udta Punjab" is attempting to convey a "good social message" about drug abuse, and so demanding cuts in its narrative reflects badly on the censor board.



Defending "Udta Punjab", Aamir told media here at an event on Wednesday: "It's a social film which talks about the drug addiction issue of Punjab's youth. It has a good social message. I don't think there's anything that should be cut or not shown to the audience.



Commenting that a suggestion of 89 cuts in the movie's narrative, "reflects badly on the CBFC", Aamir also said: "It's very important that filmmakers have a voice which is not throttled. In any society, the voice of the artiste should be free to speak what he wants to speak."



Aamir also wished the film's team good luck for its journey ahead.



Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, the film stars Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh.
