The nation is gripped by the latest controversy surrounding the unreasonable demand of cuts suggested by the Indian Censor Board to the makers of the film,Udta Punjab, which has ultimately stalled the release of the film. Unwilling to relent to the pressure applied by the CBFC, the producers of the film, Anurag Kashyap and Ekta Kapoor, moved the Bombay High Court in an attempt to get their film cleared without the cuts.

As per a report in DNA India, the latest updates from the ongoing case are streaming in, and it’s quite interesting to say the least. This is what the bench headed by Justice S.C. Dharmadhikari has to say so far about the petition filed by the makers ofUdta Punjab:



1.) Films don't run on such content, there has to be a story in it, why are you concerned?

2.) Multiplex audience are mature enough.

3.) Whether it is TV or cinema, let the people see it. Everybody has a choice.

4.) Sometime to open eyes of people to all this menace, things have to be show directly.

5.) You are certification board not censor board. People don't need censor they are biggest censors.

6.) The HC has asked that the scene in whoch Shahid is shown urinating should be removed.

7.)There should be a disclaimer that the characters in the film don't support cuss words.

However, the final judgement by the court will be announced on Monday. But. going by what the bench’s statements till now, things are certainly looking favorable for the film and its makers, and, more importantly, for all those waiting to catch it in the theaters.

In the wake of the controversy surrounding the release of 'Udta Punjab', Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar on Friday said the need of the hour was to make Punjab drug free and appealed to people to keep yoga above politics.

"It was important to make Punjab drug free. In the present situation in Punjab, everybody should come forward to make the state drug free and save the youths of Punjab," he said during a meditation session at the Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre (PRC) here.

He also appealed to everyone to keep yoga above politics and participate in the event on International Yoga Day in Chandigarh in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also participate.

Ravi Shankar emphasized the importance of Yoga for every individual irrespective of cast, creed or social status and said people should not drag religion into yoga.

He said that yoga is not just asanas or physical exercise rather it’s a complete science which provides us techniques to lead a stress-free life.

During his brief stay at the centre, Ravi Shankar interacted with the inmates and gave them some tips to remain happy.

On the occasion of International Yoga Day, Lt Gen K J Singh, GoC-in-C of Western Command said an effort will be made to bring Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the PRC and interact with the bravehearts.

He said that a sports complex is going to be inaugurated shortly at the PRC complex for the fitness of its inmates.

 

Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shahid Kapoor have made quite a few appearances as part of the promotional activities for their upcoming film ‘Udta Punjab’. And at an event the ex-couple seemed uncomfortable and was seen ignoring each other. This awkward situation created a strong buzz and the actors were asked about the same. Shahid had previously commented on the same. Kareena was also about the same in a recent interview.

The actress said that she was there for the film and had to do her job. Furthermore she said, their relationship was an old story and she has moved on. She commented, “That happened a long time ago. The media must realise that we need to look into the future.”

 

After a long battle and many controversies, finally the film ‘Udta Punjab’ has been passed by the Bombay High Court with just one cut. The censor board of India had earlier demanded 89 cuts in the film and had also told the makers to drop the word Punjab from the title. However, none of that will be needed now.

The court just asked the makers to remove the scene where Shahid Kapoor, who plays a drug addict rock star, is peeing on the crowd. Apart from that everything else is intact.

‘Udta Punjab’ stars Shahid, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh in the lead roles. Earlier the movie was supposed to release on June 17, but now the release date is still ambiguous.

 

In a landmark hearing for creative freedom and democratic rights, the Bombay High Court has cleared Udta Punjab with just one cut and has even decreed that a revised disclaimer be added to the film. This has, in effect, made the earlier decision taken by the CBFC (to pass the film with an ‘A’ certificate and 13 cuts) null and void. The court has also directed the CBFC to issue a revised certificate for the film within the next 48 hours.




The makers of Udta Punjab had moved the court after the CBFC had unreasonably demanded about 90 cuts in the film, which had brought the producers and board members to a virtual stalemate. With the verdict being announced in the filmmakers’ favor, the Bombay High Court has brought an end to a bitter battle between the CBFC and the filmmakers, and has even paved the way for future films to not relent to pressure by the board.


Citing the reasons for their judgment, the bench clearly observed that the film has no political motive behind its making and depicting drug abuse in no way promotes drug use.








The 13th July 2016 could go down as a monumental day for the film industry.
