‘Pada’ is based on a real life incident that occurred during the 90s in Kerala. It is based on an infamous incident where four commoners held the Palakkad district collector hostage to fulfill the demands of tribals in Kerala.

The then Palakkad district collector, W.R. Reddy, was held captive in his chamber for nine hours by four members of the Ayyankali Pada. The captors had used a toy pistol, crackers and bundles of thread to pull off the coup. Later in 2003, three of the four activists, Vilayodi Sivankutty, Kanhangad Ramesan and Mannur Ajayan, were punished with three years’ simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 5,000.

It is a very interesting incident that if made well can turn out to be a gripping thriller with a strong commentary about the socio-political issues that existed during that time.
